[RBW] Looking for 55cm Sam Hillborne

2014-10-02 Thread Dave Minyard
Greetings,
I haven't been on here in a long time, but am looking to possibly get
another Riv and I'm wondering if there are any 55cm Sam Hillbornes looking
for a new home? Interested in either frame/fork or complete bike.

thanks,
Dave

[RBW] FS: Saluki 54cm

2011-02-22 Thread Dave Minyard
Hi all,
I am looking to sell my Saluki, I got it from RBW in March of 2008 and it
has approx. 4K miles on it. I have taken good care of it, it does have a few
nicks and scratches, but no dents. The most noticeable ones are a small one
on the head tube and one on the seat tube from having it on a car rack
(there are photos of these in the link). All of the scratches etc. have been
covered up with clear coat polish.

Here are the specifics:

54cm Saluki
Ruby red w/cream accents
This is one of the later Toyo frames with all the braze-ons, kickstand
plate, etc.

Re: [RBW] Riding posture - advice appreciated

2010-12-20 Thread Dave Minyard
Try yoga it's great for improving posture and alignment. I was having issues
with my back while riding to the point of stop riding or maybe get a
recumbent, I had someone recommend trying yoga...which I did and at this
point 1.5 years later it's not an issue anymore. I can even ride on the
drops for extended periods without any issues. The key is to find a good
teacher that will listen and work with you. Really the change is just
amazing. I started with a local yoga for back strength class and found an
amazing teacher. I now practice yoga 5-7 days a week for 20 min. to an hour
at a time and I feel better than I did when I was 30, I'm 50 now.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: [RBW] Sackville BarSack

2010-02-10 Thread Dave Minyard
I put an olive model with the rack on back order this afternoon, they said
the olive ones may be in next week, but the rack may not be in until April.
I have been waiting awhile for them to come back out with something like
this as I am a fan of this style of front bag as opposed to the rack top
versions...I tend to not carry alot of weight in them so the rack support is
not as important to me. That said my Saluki currently has a Little Loafer
sitting on a Mark's rack. So now continues the wait for the matching
panniers!

[RBW] Re: Intro and Ride report

2009-11-16 Thread Dave Minyard
If anyone out there is interested and in the area I'm up for a ride most
anytime... and I almost always have my camera with me. Drop me a line and
we'll see what we can work out. Is there anybody on this list that is
anywhere near by?

Thanks,

Dave

[RBW] Re: Intro and Ride report

2009-11-16 Thread Dave Minyard
The main thing with that route is the farm traffic pretty much any day but
Sunday, and those roads aren't well maintained ( alot of very bumpy patch
work) and lack of shoulders...although it would only be that way for a few
miles.
If your coming from Pismo if you went hwy 1 to Clark Ave. and head east on
Clark you can take Dominon Rd which wraps around by Sisquoc and you can pick
up Foxen Canyon Road out there. That would be a good choice. You could also
take a route along Betteravia Rd. but that wouldn't be my first choice
because of traffic and lack of bicycle lanes.

[RBW] Re: Intro and Ride report

2009-11-16 Thread Dave Minyard
Yes, east on Grand Ave. which becomes Lopez Dr. and then onto Huasna Rd
south and then east. It's a pretty good route.

My favorite route from Santa Maria is to go east of 101 off Donovan and take
Bull Canyon Rd. north to 166 west, then north on Thompson Rd. through Nipomo
which turns into Los Berros Rd. once you go under the 101 overpass. That
then goes to I believe Valley and then it's small streets to Traffic Way or
Grand ave. I did this a couple of weeks ago and it was 62 miles from my door
to the Village Grill for lunch and back.

You can also take Hwy 1 that goes through Guadalupe and Oceano but I prefer
the other way.

Thanks.

[RBW] Intro and Ride report

2009-11-15 Thread Dave Minyard
Hello all,
I tend to lurk here most of the time and have gleaned alot of good
information from this group. I have posted a few times but never really
introduced myself. So here gos.

My name is Dave Minyard and I live in Orcutt on the "Central Coast"of
California. I know... look at a map and it's certainly not the center of the
state, maybe center between L.A. and S.F.? Oh, well enough of that.

I ride a Saluki that I got in 2008 from RBW. It has been through a few
different configurations in that time. So far it has had in order of use,
moustache, noodle, albatross, and currently is sporting butterfly bars and
also has had a few different saddles...Brooks B17, Champion Flyer Special
and Imperial. But it currently has a Selle SMP. I have had different comfort
issues over the years so I am constantly changing things. The current set up
seems to be working pretty good tho.

Went on a good ride yesterday, kinda short ...30 miles round trip. but had a
great time and wanted to share pictures with the group. I rode from Arroyo
Grande, Ca. out to Huasna Valley and back. I had good weather, and saw quite
a few other riders, only 1 other lugged steel ride tho ( didn't get the make
on it). Here's a link to the pics.

[RBW] Schwalbe tire issues

2009-10-24 Thread Dave Minyard

I have been running Col De La Vies on my Saluki since I received it in
late March 2008, they were getting pretty worn so I decided to try the
Schwalbe Marathon 650b as I had used the same tire in 20 inch size on
the Bike Friday I used to have and were very happy with them. The
problem I have run into is this... I installed the new tires on Wed.
but since then on 2 different rides I have had them blow out. The last
time today it blew the tire off of the rim and put a long split in the
tube. I haven't run them at full 85psi , but had them at around 80psi.
I'm thinking that something about my rim (Velocity Synergy 32h) and
tire combination isn't likeing that much pressure. Today after it blew
and I installed my spare I only aired it up to about 60psi and it
seemed fine to get me home.

The tires seem to fit very loose on the rim, I can completely change
tire and tube with no tools.

I didn't have anything like this happen at all with the CDLV's. I
weigh 178 and tend to carry alot on my bike...it has a Tubus Cargo
rack and Ortlieb panniers that I leave on it pretty much all the
time.

Has any one on this list had any issues with them?

I am going to call RBWHQ on Monday to see what they think about it.

Thanks,
Dave Minyard

I wonder if "high performance" means high pressure? Sure sounds interesting,
might have to give these a try.

[RBW] FS: 54 cm Saluki

2009-06-20 Thread Dave Minyard

It is in very good condition with approx. 1000 miles on everything except the
bars, stem, and brake levers. They were changed about 6 weeks ago. It does have
a couple of small chips, but no dents or dings. The worst chip is on the
headtube near the bottom and can be seen in one of the photos. Some paint also
came off on the rear rack braze-ons from when I had a rack attached (this can
also be seen in one of the photos).

Details are:

54 cm Saluki frame, Ruby Red custom color paint, this is one of the later
frames with all the braze-ons, kickstand plate, etc.
Wheels by Rich @ RBW
Front- SON dynamo hub, synergy rims, 32h
Rear- Riv Phil Wood freewheel hub w/IRD 13-32 fw, 32 h

Col de la vie tires

Nitto Albatross Bar
Nitto Technomic Deluxe stem 11 cm

I do have some options with bar/stem and also saddles that can be addressed if
interested.

[RBW] trekking bar question

2009-04-18 Thread Dave Minyard

I was wondering if any one in this group has tried any of the trekking style
bars that are available? I am most wondering about the adjustable ones like the
Modolo Dumbos or ITM Selego? I understand that the Selegos are no longer
available but thought maybe someone out there had tried them.

Thanks,

They look like really nice bags. Did anyone else notice the apparent Sackville
