Thanks for the link to that documentation. I believe mine is a 54cm 2014

bridge model, I guess!

I bought mine from a friend of a friend and I've done a bit of poking
around on the history of the San Marcos but I still don't fully understand
the evolution of the fork and color.

I used the Velo Orange band clamps for the third water bottle cage. It's
been rock solid and handy having the option for one more bottle.

Re: [RBW] Re: Riv-ish cycling in Door County, WI

2022-08-08 Thread Eric White
I rode the Peninsula Fall Challenge a few years ago. The entire route was
fairly light on traffic with the exception of a stretch on highway 42.
Overall if you avoid highways 57 and 42 you should be in good shape. Bay
Shore Drive in particular is a lovely road.

These routes might provide some inspiration -

 It is gray.

 How about 170 bucks shipped?

I'm also experimenting with my first SA saddle and it definitely wants its

Re: [RBW] New To Rivendell, Appaloosa Initial Impressions

2022-04-05 Thread Eric White
Hi Randy,

Good memory! You are correct. The San Marcos is my link to the Rivendell
family. Not quite as burly as your Appaloosa but it's a joy to ride on
the Driftless hills.

The Pugs was a blast to ride this winter. Most enjoyable were several rides
through the neighborhood over unplowed streets on cold, snowy nights.
Rolling over snow while watching snowflakes float through the headlight is
a pretty nice way to spend an hour or two.

Maybe we can make a ride happen sometime this summer and I can ogle your
bike in person. Respectfully, of course!

Eric

Re: [RBW] Roadini heavy?

2022-01-28 Thread Eric White
I'm intrigued by the idea of wider tires on the new Roadini but I currently
ride a Soma San Marcos that I'm pretty happy with. I can squeeze 38s in it
and the ride is pretty great for brevets and long leisurely rides. I do
like the 44s I'm running on a touring bike but I just don't know that I
need to move up to 42s on a new brevet bike.

I bought the Roadini from Eric Daume after he was done with it. I like
it, but I don't love it(other than the orange color). I've ridden it with a
variety of 28-38mm wide tires. It handles fine, and the fit is
comfortable, it's just not a lively ride. I think it's overbuilt. If you
are looking for a burly roadish bike, it may work for you, but if you are
looking for a zippy road bike with fender and tire clearance, this isn't
 it.
I was hoping for a budget Roadeo. I would like to try a Roadeo, but now
I fear it is overbuilt as well. My wacked-out conspiracy theory is that all
Rivs are overbuilt now because they can't afford to have any warranty
 claims.
I have been meaning to sell the Roadini for months now, because I have
other bikes I like(love) better, but I have been dragging my feet because
orange! Plus I'm lazy about selling things.
