[RBW] Re: Just Pics from Your Good Ride Thread

2020-06-05 Thread Lithocarpus
It's my new 1x setup. SRAM 11-50 rear cassette (on a Shimano XT hub body),
SRAM GX deraileur, Silver cranks (Wolf Tooth 34t chainring and a Silver
chainring guard), and a SRAM GX trigger shifter. The gearing is for
off-road adventures but I'm riding it on the road for a few more days while
I wait for my Appaloosa to come back from the painter's shop on Monday.

Thank you. And yes, that's an MIT Atlantis with the long wheelbase. It's set
up with a 1x drivetrain that makes it look even longer!

I purchased a 120 link chain hoping that would be enough, but it was just a
little shy. I ended up splicing two together for about 124 links in all.

[RBW] Looking for 26" Wheels

2020-04-30 Thread Lithocarpus
Evening Folks. Any chance that someone on this list lives in the Bay Area
and has an un-needed 26" mountain bike wheelset, 9spd? 1.5 to 1.75? I'm
helping my son put together a my old steel frame Kona, but we are without
wheels. I thought I'd check here first before ordering new wheels.

[RBW] Shelter in Place / Quarantines

2020-03-21 Thread Lithocarpus
I’m in Napa. Today was the first day of our shelter-in-place. It’s been made
clear here and in the rest of the Bay Area that biking is an allowed activity
both for exercise and for transportation. Just no groups. I imagine it will be
the same elsewhere, but I suppose it could vary. I went for a 15 mile ride
today to blow off some steam.

Re: [RBW] Appaloosa Presale

2020-02-26 Thread Lithocarpus
I just got home from the shop. They showed me one of the new orange
Appaloosas that was being built up. The orange is ridiculously gorgeous!
It's very slightly on the burnt orange side of the spectrum, particularly
compared to the reddish-orange roadini that was hanging up nearby. I think
the construction pumpkin on the orange XO was a higher-key color, as is the
color that I decided on with D&D for my Appaloosa.

And I took a Susie for a lap around the parking lot and have decided that I
have to sell one of my other bikes so that I can buy a hillibike. I can't
wait to take it out for a spin on the trail once my knee is all healed.
Visiting headquarters is dangerous to my bank account!

It sure looks close. I'm head to Walnut Creek tomorrow specifically to

painted an orange that I think is close to the old construction pumpkin.

[RBW] Getting a Riv Custom Painted in the Bay Area

2020-01-26 Thread Lithocarpus
Howdy folks. So, I saw the post regarding the next batch of Appaloosas,
including the info that they will be available in orange and off-white (pumpkin
and tusk, anyone?)

I already have a beautiful British racing green Appaloosa that I picked up two
years ago. It’s my daily commuting bike and is well loved and used. The green
is beautiful, but it’s not orange.

But I’ve wanted an orange bike forever and have never seemed to land one. The
obsession with orange started with the xo-1 in my local bike shop way back in
the dark ages. I’ve never shaken the desire to have an orange bike.

Since I can’t justify buying an orange version of the same bike I already have,
who could I contact in the Bay Area to discuss a custom paint job so I can
price out the orange and cream beauty I’ve wanted for so long. I seem to recall
that Riv uses a particular painter, but couldn’t find the information.

Any leads?
