Bill,
A 58 Homer would have been a better fit for my PBH 89. That’s an a little
closer but probably not enough. I’m going to check into it anyway for
grins. The Paramount is such a beautiful frame. Thanks for your
comments.

[RBW] Drop bar to Albatross bar on 70’s Schwinn Paramount

2024-07-15 Thread Lyman Labry
Hello,
I ride a 61.5 Homer with albatross bars. I’m considering installing
Albatross bars on a 56 cm vintage road bike so I can ride it too. What
stem could I use to get the bars high enough?
Thanks.

Many of you may already be aware of this, but Blue Lug has a nice
catalog of all it's Riv Builds for customers. In the even you want some
inspiration for your next build, or just want to see some different takes
on each frame, have a look:

 https://bluelug.com/bike-catalog/model/rivendell-bicycle-works/

If you click the dropdown in the top right corner and scroll down to
the Riv section you can even filter for specific models. Been super helpful
as I accrue the things needed for my upcoming 56cm 2TT Sam I scored from
 Abe on here.

Hopefully helpful for folks looking to build out that next frame or
 rebuild your old favorite!

The pin and shackle fell off my Brooks B17 saddle recently. The saddle was

Has anyone in the group experienced this problem? Any guidance appreciated.

[RBW] Homers and road touring

2022-10-10 Thread Lyman Labry
I have a question or the group. I ride a Homer and considering using it
for road touring. Since its not by definition a touring Rivendell, is
loaded touring pushing the envelope for this bike?

thanks,
Lyman ATX

Re: [RBW] Rearview mirrors: necessary, effective, recommendations?

2020-08-28 Thread Lyman Labry
Hi,
I highly recommended mirrors. Ive always used the German one mounted on
drop bars. However, with my new Albatasche bars, i have not found a way to
mount them without interfering with hand grip. Any help there would be
appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: [RBW] Re: FS: 59cm Square Rivendell Road with S Couplers

2020-08-18 Thread Lyman Labry
A couple of questions. I’m fairly new to Rivendell. Wondering if you could
comment.
How different would this ride feel compared to the latest version of AHH?
Top tube is level or so it appears?
Stem is short. 5cm?
What is PBH range for this frame?
While Riv bike owners are not weight conscious, still, I’d like to know
what this bike weighs. It matters if I’m schlepping it in a suitcase in
taxis and airports.
Thanks

Re: [RBW] Re: (Large) Sackville Saddlebag without a Rack?

2020-07-13 Thread Lyman Labry
Yes. The Baggabond may be too large for the Erlen and maybe too heavy for
what its designed for. Just a thought.
Back to the stick. It’s kind of an “on the fly” approach. But maybe a
piece of black bamboo and contrasting cord would be more elegant and appear
more purposeful.

In my experience, the rotors may be bent when the suitcase is roughly
handled by airlines. I solved that by removing and packing them separately.
But that’s time consuming.
Also: Heavy and I don’t think they’re necessary. I found I was spending a
lot of time tweaking after transport. Often in an airport. Drag.

I own two Bike Fridays. Pocket LLama and a Pocket Rocket Pro. I’ve used
both for touring in Europe, North America, and UK. On road and off road
with Llama. Was preparing for Vietnam when Covid struck.
Standard chain ring and derailleur setup. Easy to repair anywhere. I’d
avoid disc brakes. Super comfortable bikes for multi mile days. The PRP
uses 20” 451 tires so maybe not ideal if taking abroad in out of the way
places. I pack a foldable spare though. The NWT is probably your best
friend.

Hello,
I’m new to Rivendell family and enjoying this discussion on ways to
lighten your bike through wheel sets.
Can anyone comment on the Rivendell 700c Velocity built Standard Atlas
wheel set in terms of lightness and comparison to other possibilities?
Thanks,
