Re: [RBW] Re: Atlas stout enough rim for Gus/Susie?
Hey Jason, another rim to consider, that falls in between the Atlas (19.8) and Cliffhanger(25) internal widths is Sun Ryno Lyte 700c. I believe the internal width is 22mm(27 outside). And they can usually be found for a pair for under which a single Velocity rim would cost. They’re not MUSA though. They get fairly good reviews. I’ve seen the weight listed at 590 grams for 700c as well as 670 grams for 700c so I’m not too sure on the confirmed weight. Hey Reid, I gave the builder the forks specs ( of the older Joe App, I believe V2 has a slightly beefier fork) and he said it was ok. Jeff, Walt from Waltworks did the mods. Awesome to deal with. $150 total for front/ rear tabs. I did not have the canti studs removed, also no cable guides added. This would’ve increased price by a little. I just used the canti posts/ rack brazeons and some zip ties to keep housing in place. Works pretty good. I’ll post some pics when I get a chance. Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: 2 Gus Boots For Sale on Riv Site
If you REALLY want disc brakes on a Riv frame( GBW) I’d say have some disc mounts put on, that’s what I did on my Atlantis and now Joe App. I had a brace put in the rear to triangulate the chainstay/ seatstay, make it stronger. It does open up some rim options, especially for the GBW. There are a lot of steel frames out there with disc brakes. Some might be heavier gauge steel than Riv/ some lighter. Time will tell if the braking action has a negative impact on the frame. We’ll see Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 29, 2019, at 3:06 PM, Ryan M. wrote: > > I agree with this, Christopher. You know, In taking these pics I was going for more of the effect of the ‘diamond in the rough’ bike at a yard sale( yard sale being CL or eBay) and when you get it home and get it all polished up, you realize you have a beautifully made, solid, rad bike. A real gem! I would of course do the polishing before it’s shipped and get it all cleaned up. I could work on my photo skills for sales purposes. In all seriousness, It’s a great bike, no cracks/ never ever crashed. It’s just a little big for me. I didn’t feel comfortable posting it the RBWOB list because it’s not a Riv and doesn’t have a ton of Riv qualities other than being steel and borrowing from the Hunq geo. -Mike Sent from my iPhone > On Apr 28, 2018, at 11:16 PM, CMRwrote: > > I just bought a cracked frame that was covered up with dirt, not fun haha > > The market for higher end bikes like this usually has much more trustworthy > sellers than the cheap bike I bought, but still. Re: [RBW] Tech Question: Do rear hubs have spacers?!
When I reverse the wheel, it sits pretty even in the middle, meaning i cant see a bias one way or the other. I’ll put this wheel in some other 135mm spaced bikes and see if it sits unevenly to one side. Im 99% positive that its in the dropouts correctly. Thanks for the help everyone! Re: [RBW] 650B Atlantis
Doug, its impressive to hear this story coming from you! More than anyone on the list, I think of you as more resolute about your Atlantis being capable for all of the kind of riding that you love to do. When we all talk about different models or even brands and ride characteristics, you always pop into my head as' yeah, but is it going to offer me anything that my Atlantis doesnt'? Re: [RBW] Re: An un-obstructive front handle bar bag for boscos?
Hey Annie, I dont have one, but saw one yesterday and the Detours ' Rainier Handlebar duffle bag' looked really neat. It has some well designed zippers/ pockets on the side and inside and it looks like it goes on/ off in a cinch; with 2 buckles that are adjustable. The tan is a really nice color too. Re: [RBW] What are these handlebars on Hunq (BLUG CONTENT!)
Hey group, that is my Hunq. The bars are the Ahearne MAP bars in the slightly wider(61.5cm) version. Theyre awesome, but i wish they accepted BE shifters. Re: [RBW] How are albatross and albastache bars for long distance riding?
Daniel, bars are personal, everyone has there preferences and i cant speak for Albastaches, But I can for Albatross and for me, they are just about the perfect mixed surface touring bar, good for 100 mile days without even thinking about it.Ive tried drops, never could get comfy. This is why I like Albas, they let you sit high and really see around you a bit more. As for hand positions theres a solid 3 or 4 for me, and also I set the bars at saddle height or a little higher and this takes pressure off hands/ wrists and Im not really wanting to move my hands around all the time. We all met at David's home and promptly dropped into Gonzalez Canyon zigzaging through dense chaparral with abandon. The weather was sunny and pleasant with a slight breeze. Apologies to the the Northern climes. Our dear Tom had run out of time and made an exit, for he had Christmas tree trimming duty waiting for him, it was great to see him but too short for me. Tom and I met the next day for coffee outside which was great. As with gleeful joy on single track often a sacrifice is made to the trail gods. Our Mike Shiller was gallant enough to shed some blood for the cause when he and a tree had a disagreement, Mike' wounds were treated a red bandanna was added to his outfit (made him that much more gnarled) and off we went resuming our ride...by the way the tree was fine just in case you were wondering. This has been David's playground for a while now so he put together a bow tie dirt event for us...he tied together two Canyons and a Mesa with next to no cars to contend with. Literally the GPS mapping is a bow tie as we crossed under the 56 freeway multiple times. After Gonzalez we dropped into Penasquitos Canyon after climbing a short steep access road. We cheerfully glided down smooth undulating single track along the North side of Penasquitos Canyon heading West where we crossed paths with the few hikers on our adventure. Soon we made a short stop at the Waterfalls for snacks, bike talk and future rides. Continuing we looped back around and headed East up Penasquitos. David saved the best till last the Del Mar Mesa Preserve where the tunnels exist. These are scrub oak grown over making a tunnel canopy with yet more singletrack winding it's way down another small canyon a technical sheer blast! One had to be vigilant so as not to have your head smashed backward from low hanging branches. As I rolled through the tunnels hugging *(Ole Willy's) top tube I wondered how Curtis at 6'7 was fairing? He came through for the most unscathed a little bit of bark was seen in his vicinity. Concluding our ride at Greenblatt ' s Ale House David was a great host lots of chips dips, some Sculpin grapefruit ale and Speedway Stout was had, adding at least on my part 10% by volume the extra cherry on the proverbial cake on the perfect day in the saddle.
