[RBW] Re: my first Rivendell -- a 61cm Romulus

2022-02-20 Thread Rick Urbanowski
FYI I have the exact same bike. When I bought it, it had albatross bars on
it and it also came with a set of drops. I left the albatross on there and
they are working out just great. I can ride very upright and I have zero
neck pain now thanks for that. I even did a century last October on it.
Just a thought.

[RBW] Presale?

Can someone explain to me how the presale works? I can't find any actual
explanation on it on the website.
You pay upfront, right? And then just wait for the frame to come in? Or is
it like a lottery type situation? I'm confused.
Thanks in advance

[RBW] Chain mud guard for Romulus

2021-10-20 Thread Rick Urbanowski
After managing to squeeze 38 mm on my Romulus I had to give up on the dream

At the very least I would like to protect the drivetrain and feel like an
enclosed chain guard may be an option. Can anyone point me In right
direction?
Thanks bunches

[RBW] Re: PayPal now taxing goods & services transactions >$600

2021-10-06 Thread Rick Urbanowski

sucking it up and paying taxes that you owe isn’t the end of the world.

[RBW] Re: Romulus replacement brake pads

2021-08-18 Thread Rick Urbanowski
LOL! I'm high!
Good eye there Bill.
The ones that are on there right now stop fairly well in the rain, but not
what I would call great. I was hoping for great.
Maybe I'll try sanding these down a little bit and see if they get any
better results before I put a new pair on.
Thanks for the heads up! Lol 🥬

[RBW] Re: Front rack for Romulus?

I like what you're laying down here
I might just get bold and start tinkering here. Thanks for the motivation!

Indeed, a fendered 650B conversion should work fine on that bike. Two
caveats: 1. Rivs already have a low BB so the smaller wheel size could be
 a
pedal-strike issue if you tend to pedal through turns. 2. Long-reach
calipers like the Tektro R559 Riv sells won't work because that frame was
already designed for mid-reach. You'll probably need a center-pull like
Paul Racers or Dia-Compes. The added fun for this plan is you'll need
 brake
hangers at the headset and seat lug (Riv sells them).

In summary: Romulus is a great lightish-loads road bike that can take
decently cushy tires, fenders and a small front rack, but you can go to a
lot of time and trouble trying to make it something it really wasn't meant
to be. There's other Rivs that might work better for what you're looking
 for. In my opinion!*
