Re: [RBW] what to wear with knickers?

2010-10-25 Thread Tom Norwood
Smartwool ski socks are just the ticket. The extra thickness in front for
padding against a ski boot gives extra insulation against the wind while
riding.

Re: [RBW] White Industries vbc road crank

2010-09-07 Thread Tom Norwood
I have one on my custom Ebisu. I've been using it for about four years. I
really like it. I wanted a 46/30 double and it allowed me to do that. I've
had no problems with it at all and have thousands of miles on it in Seattle
weather. (i.e. it's seen plenty of rain!)

Re: [RBW] Hobbies that compliment your Rivendell lifestyle

2010-04-27 Thread Tom Norwood
Lots of guitar players! I have beautiful Martin HD28V that sounds pretty
amazing despite my lack of skill.

Not sure if this is a hobby, but that first interview with Mark Sission in
the Rivendell Reader set me off on a whole new trajectory that includes:
Paleo diet, barefoot running, MovNat, and Parkour. I actually ride less
than I used to as a direct result of that interview, but still love it. I’m
just a bit more balanced in my fitness these days.

I don't see too much of that in Seattle, but about a week ago when I was
commuting home on my bike I almost T boned some guys on bikes. I was going
downhill, though a green light and three or four guys apparently got
impatient waiting for their turn and crossed against the red right in front
of me such that I had to hit my brakes so I wouldn't hit them. As they
started to cross I expected a bunch of yahoo racers or stupid kids but I
noticed that all the bikes were lugged steel, and one was for sure a
Rambouillet.

I guess its not always us vs. them!

I think with a 63 you won't find a bag that comes up even with the bars.

Yes, holes do need to be punched, or drilled as the case may be.

I think this would be a great choice! Check out the bag review in the
latest Bicycle Quarterly.

The bag opening from the front of the bike is really a deal killer for me.
To me it seems the whole point of having a handlebar bag is so you can get
to stuff while riding. The Jitensha and Berthoud are easy to access, the
Ostrich is not.

Measure up from your rack and down from your stem bolt, study the photos on
the wall bike site and take your best guess. I guessed/measured wrong on my
bike but I just returned the bag and got the next size up and it worked
fine. If you want to email me directly I'd be happy to send detailed photos
and more indepth info of the instalation of my Berthoud bag and decauler.
