I sold my atlantis in less than 24hrs. The fact that this is up and you

in.

Re: [RBW] Re: Heron Road Seatpost Size?

2024-05-24 Thread Zac
Thank you all for the helpful comments. This bike is fairly new to me, but
it does look like the ears at the top of the seat tube are slightly
pinched, and the previous owner was using a smaller seat post size. I'll
see if I can carefully pry it open for a 27.2 seat post.

[RBW] Heron Road Seatpost Size?

2024-05-23 Thread Zac
Can anyone confirm the seat post on their Heron Road is 27.2mm?

According to Sheldon Brown's database, all Heron's use a 27.2 post, but the
one I just tried to install wasn't going in at all. I rode by a shop and
their calipers gave 26.8-9 for both the seat tube and existing seat post.

The bike is fairly new to me, perhaps the seat tube got pinched at the top
at some point.

[RBW] Touch-up paint

2024-05-10 Thread Zac
FWIW, I was checking the Gunnar/Waterford site to see if they had my paint
color (I ordered a bottle when I first heard they were shutting down, but
it broke during a move) and noticed they added some Riv colors:

Rivendell Atlantis Green
Rivendell Cream
Rivendell Head Tube Ivory
Rivendell Homer Hilsen Blue
Rivendell Jay's Green
Rivendell Light Blue Met
Rivendell Light Green
Rivendell Pearly Arctic Blue
Rivendell Roadeo R
Rivendell Roadeo White
Rivendell Sage
Rivendell Sam Hilborne Orange

I think the touch-up paint is now shipped in plastic bottles instead of
glass like I received.

[RBW] Re: NorCal Coast Tour Route Feedback

2024-02-24 Thread Zac
Hi Stephen,

I did this years ago and had a blast, despite one full day of rain on our
way to Leggett, which also coincided with stretches along Hwy 101. People
have different comfort levels regarding riding with traffic, but if—and
when!—I do this trip again I would probably look for side routes along that
stretch, say, between Garberville and Leggett; and maybe around Fort Bragg,
unless folks there have changed their attitude towards bike touring since I
last rode through. Other than those areas, I have fond memories of weaving
down Hwy 1 with barely a soul in sight for miles and miles. So I would
stick to the coast mostly, as in your second itinerary. Also, in my
experience, many of the roads that head inland in that area are significant
climbs, have little to no shoulder and lots of twists and turns that some
drivers like to race through.

You're gonna love it.

 My main questions are:
Will it have a straight top tube like the Platy / Roscoe Bubbe, or the
nice graceful swoopy one like Gus / Susie / Charlie?

1" threaded or 1-1/8" threadless (like Gus)?

Heavier tubing (like Gus), or lighter duty (like Susie)?

The pass and stow is nice but im going for something lighter that hopefully

[RBW] Nitto 32F Rack weight limit?

2023-02-03 Thread Zac Terrones
Looks like a lot of the sites say 4.4lbs. Are they saying that just to be
safe? Analog says 15lbs and if you're gonna go over to use a voile strap.
Has anyone tested this? Anyone pushing that 4.4lb limit regularly?

I want to throw a basket on it for grocery shopping. The soma rack I have
now attaches to the lower fork mounts but because of the headtube angle the
rack sits pretty far away from the headtube and a heavy load feels sloppy
way out there.

Fisher does still make steel bikes. They make a cyclocross bike called
the "Presidio". It's made out of True Temper OX platinum and is very
