Re: [RBW] Sam Hillborne 56cm question
Hey Mike, I don't have the answer about the double top tube but I enjoy looking at my bike almost as much as riding it! Especially after a complete take apart and cleaning! Hi all - My first time posting...I've been wanting to get a steel lugged bike for a while now to use for commuting, grocery shopping, rides with the kids...basically an all around general bike to use when I'm not riding a road bike. I've finally landed on the Sam, and have been saving to get enough $ to do a complete build. I'm about half way there, and discovered on their website that it seems the 56cm only comes with a double top tube. I emailed a few days ago to ask if this is the case, but haven't heard back. So, here's what I'm wondering - is the 56cm Sam only with a double top tube now? If so, what would you suggest as some other options? I really like the look and the idea of the Sam, but honestly don't like the look of the double top tube at all...and if I'm spending that much, I want to love not only the feel of it when I ride, but also I want to love the look of it -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Another Winters Run - YouTube
Thanks Eric for the vid, I used to teach in Winters back in the 70's. It sure has grown a bit. Steve Kesling I've got to learn about the editing and such on these. Looks like fun. [RBW] 64 atlantis
Hey does anyone here know where a guy can find a used 64 atlantis? I'll pay anything for it! Not really, I too am happy it's staying with the original owner. I love my atlantis and will never part with it. Merry Christmas to all. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] tamdems
My wife and I have ridden tandems and triplets for over 30 years. We still have our orginal jack Taylor and I believe it still has the best components with a tandem campy crankset and phil hubs and bottom brackets. the derailers have been upgraded as the years have past. About 15 years ago we made the mistake of riding a santana. the mistake being that we had to have one. We had a steal noventa tandem made to our size and still ride it today. It is our go to bike. When my dad past away we went down to the factory and talked with Bill McCready about some upgrades for this bike and we came home with santanas Beyond. Now that is a go fast light tandem. We still use the noventa a great deal. there are several very good tandem makers. I would sugest doing some online research, Bilenky, co motion, burly, santana are all good. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Sirius value?
A friend gave me for the cost of shipping this old bike that had been given to him and it sat under his deck outside for three years. It was a mess in terms of dirt and grease and things growing up through the spokes. I took a day and repacked all the bearings, polished the rims and other parts and realized there was no absolutely no wear on the derailer pullys or bearings. I don't think this bike had 100 miles on it. Suntour cyclone hubs and derailer, with a shimano 600 front derailer. Nice brown paint job with gold accents. Cool bike, lugged frame, classic lines. What might it be worth? It's a small 19 inche frame. I looked it up on the internet and it appears to have been built pre Grant, 1983 or before. Looks like the orignal cost was between 450 and 500 dollars. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] strong wheels
I've used phil hubs with 48 spokes on my tandem for years and they have never failed. I have also a set of 40 spoke wheels with edco hubs without failure with well over 350 pounds. [RBW] love stories
On the 7th day of April thirty one years ago I married my wife. Or did she marry me? I guess it depends on who wears the pants that day. She was not a bicyclist to say the least. While in college I had heard of this new organization called Bi Centennial and they were planning a cross country bike route. I was riding way back then and it looked like a good thing for myself and a few friends. At the time I was married to wife number one. A nice gal. She was going through her student teaching stuff and really didn't want to do such a long time ride. So I waved good bye to my friends as they went north to start their cross country trip with the bi centennial group. Well she never became a rider and we parted ways after five years of wedded bliss! Wife number two now a mother of our son didn't know about the orginal trip that I did not make. So I told her I wanted to go cross country on a bike. Her responce was we'll have to wait for the summer when school is out. So we had a Jack Taylor tandem built bought a bike trailer and started training. We left with our 18 month old son in tow for the best vacation I've ever had. 63 days later we were dipping our front wheel in the Atlantic with the TV and newspaper folks all around. Since then my son that was in tow had to ride himself across so we set out again when he was 15 on singles. Turning 50 a few years back my wife and I decided to tandem across again. We get along better on the road than when we are at home. Like I said 31 years later and planning the next trip. When will Riv make a tandem? Who knows, the Jack Taylor hangs in the garage along side two Santanas and a host of other singles. Find a woman that rides and you will be happy the rest of your life! Shes also a great cook! Keep those wheels a turnin, Steve -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
