[RBW] Re: Combining small Nitto rack with Tektro hanger?

2012-09-30 Thread tim becker
I just did this a few weeks ago and I can confirm it works, at least on
my Atlantis. The Tektro hanger comes with two recessed allen nuts that
work with the Nitto. A Sheldon's fender nut works here too, but the rack
stud is too long to allow the second bolt that attaches the fender to
engage. The angle of the rack changes slightly due to the thickness of the
hanger, and the one or two thick toothy washers needed to clear the lower
headset cup - so attaching the lower struts to the braze-ons takes a little
more encouraging than usual.
  hope that helps.

[RBW] Re: Bags n stuff for sale

2012-06-20 Thread tim becker
Tony,

Thomas said it pretty well: it depends on stem and head tube height.
Here are a couple of photos of the bag on my 61cm Atlantis with a Big
Front Rack.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/58674468@N00/7411091550/
http://flic.kr/p/chTNW5

You could probably squeeze a loafer in there. I've put a sleeping pad
and similar sized things under the bag before.
I never found the rack to be a problem, other than, like all handlebar
bags, using a bar mounted light doesn't work so well. I really liked that
it opens to the rear, a big improvement over my Ostrich.

hope that helps,
-tim
