Re: [RBW] About a one week report on the new Hillborne
Jim, Not as well as your Moonlander with wide, supple tires. Hopefully we can all agree 4.5 inch tires qualify as wide. Of course, with all the water on the trails on Saturday, did come close to hydroplaning once. Or that may have been some residual ice at the bottom. [RBW] About a one week report on the new Hillborne
Big week for me and the bike, as I finally took the studded tires off on Wednesday. Did the first commute yesterday and got out today for a 30 mile ramble. Been dialing in a few things and swapping out a part here and there. Most fun was putting an old Sackville mudflap on the back fender ala Jared in one of the new Bikes of the Month at Rivendell. The main thing I've noticed is - nothing. Can't really tell if the second top tubes adds anything or not. If so, it too subtle for me to notice. At least yet. The 60cm frame definitely fits me better than the old 56. That's probably a bigger difference than any extra tube. The fancier lugs are really nice. As is the present paint scheme. Very detailed for an inexpensive Rivendell. Still getting used to sidepull brakes. This is the first bike I've had since high school with these things. They're working fine even wet and with all the puddles I went through today they were plenty wet. Do have the Marathon Racers on the bike now. Will be swapping out to Baby Big Bens in the real near future. In part because the Racers are getting worn. At least for me, they wear down faster than other Schwalbe tires. Personally like them more than the Marathon Supremes.
