Oh, also added Campagnolo front and rear skewers that I found in a dumpster

Thanks, Tim. The original build video is here: https://youtu.be/0OmJRDn5R8I

Since the video I replaced the crank with a SunXCD 44/26 and the front and

S-Ride 7 speeds, 12-32, I believe.

Re: [RBW] Anyone Tried RH Snoqualmie Pass on a Sam?

2023-07-11 Thread Patrick Moore
One disadvantage, perhaps a minor one for a given rider, is that (at least
IME) tires much fatter than ~32 mm do make the handling less "crisp" than
narrower tires; for example, the otherwise very nice ride of the 42 mm
Naches Pass is slightly less "agile" than that of the simply superbe 29 mm
Elk Pass.

2023-07-11 Thread Tim Bantham
Hmmm. You all have me thinking about giving them a try. It is an expensive
experiment however. I've have found through the years that a 38mm tire
feels ideal on a Sam. Maybe I should stick with it since I ride 90% on
pavement with it. Just because I can fit them doesn't necessarily mean that
I should. I doubt I would have a much different experience with the
Snoqualmie's over the Barlow Pass. I am riding Velocity Quill Rims which
are nice and wide a 21mm interal width.

Re: [RBW] Anyone Tried RH Snoqualmie Pass on a Sam?

2023-07-11 Thread Adam
Yes, I've got that setup and it's great. I only have a Racer on the front,
tektro 559 on the back, but there's plenty of clearance. You do have to
deflate the tire to get it on/off, but I've never felt that was much of an
issue, since I rarely take off the wheel unless I've got a flat or am
changing tires or whatever. The time it is REALLY annoying is if you ever
get into mud, because then you have to deflate the tire to scrape off the
mud, but those tires are so horrible in the mud anyway, that seems unlikely.

I even have the 52mm VO fenders on there as well. It's kind of tight and I
take them off if I'm doing anything much off road, but they are
fine--IMO--for road riding.

Good luck,

Adam

Re: [RBW] Anyone Tried RH Snoqualmie Pass on a Sam?

2023-07-10 Thread Brian Cunningham
Tim,

I’ve got the same era Sam but with the tektro r559 brakes. Tire clearance
is sufficient for those 44s, but when I’ve run them I haven’t been able to
get the tires to pass through the brake calipers fully inflated, so I’d
have to finish inflating after getting the tires in place. Not sure how
those brakes compare with Paul Racers in terms of the size of the opening.

Re: [RBW] Anyone Tried RH Snoqualmie Pass on a Sam?

2023-07-10 Thread Eliot Balogh
Can’t speak to your tire clearance but I just put these tires on my gravel
bike (measured 43.75 for the extra light on 25mm ID rims) and they’re
fricken amazing. Feel fast on the road and capable of up to medium gravel.

[RBW] Anyone Tried RH Snoqualmie Pass on a Sam?

2023-07-10 Thread Tim Bantham
Thinking about new tires for my Sam. Has anyone fit the 700x44 Rene Herse
Snoqualmie pass? My Sam is circa 2014 and has Paul Racers. Easily clears a
38 so I am thinking about going ever larger to the 44. Anyone out there who
has tried this tire on their non-canti Sam?
