Re: [RBW] FS: CHEVIOT

2016-09-05 Thread 'Mark in Beacon' via RBW Owners Bunch
There are several ways to do it, but yes, the top tube paint would need to
be touched up. Since this is the RBW forum, and the bike in question is a
lovely Rivendell, I withdraw my suggestion to remove the braze-on! (But if
someone were really interested, they might contact Patrick "Pass the
dremel" Moore off line. Me, I would use a hack saw and a file to be safer.
But as mentioned would see how things line up bypassing the braze-on before
resorting to this. It could also affect the no warranty warranty, I
imagine, so only for the committed and brave.)

Re: [RBW] FS: CHEVIOT

2016-09-04 Thread René Sterental
The braze-on is correct for the segment of cable housing to go from it to
the rear side-pull brake. And it's offset to the left side slightly, just
like on diamond frames to facilitate the cable routing.

Option one, which I'll check, is to run the cable straight to the yoke for
the centerpull rear brake bypassing the blaze-on entirely, assuming it
doesn't rub it.

Option two is to figure out the gizmo/router/guide like Kellie and Joe
Bunik have done to route the cable through the braze-on.

Irrespective of which brake you use, the segment between the two braze-one
has the cable running naked.

Re: [RBW] FS: CHEVIOT

2016-09-04 Thread René Sterental
On the Wilbury, there is no rear cable stop on the top tube. So right now,
I'm assuming that centerpulls don't need it and in the case of the Betty
and Cheviot, since the rear cable stop is needed for the side pull brakes,
you either bypass it entirely as long as the cable doesn't rub it, or just
need something to guide the cable and preventing from marring the paint on
the cable stop.
https://flic.kr/p/HxjTDS

Joe Bunik has some metal gizmo he used on his Cheviot; Joe, can you explain
what you used and any other details?
https://flic.kr/p/nnnCeD

It's all starting to make sense.

Re: [RBW] FS: CHEVIOT

2016-09-04 Thread IanA
That looks like a cantilever straddle cable hanger. There are lots of different
types available.

On that Cheviut, the straddle cable holder is right behind the cable housing
stop and a short section of housing has been used between the housing stop and
the cable hanger. A full length brake cable has been used as the straddle
cable.

The Compass Cycles staddle cable hanger is super nice to use.

holds the cable in place which ends at the straddle cable yoke. The photo

[RBW] FS: CHEVIOT

2016-08-31 Thread Kellie

*$2300*. 50cm Cheviot, green in excellent condition with less than 500
miles. Built from a frame with Rivendell-like parts and some upgraded fancy
bits and additional parts. Wheels shod with Rock and Road tires which are
*wonderful* on street and off-road. Don't really want to let go of this
bike but I need the funds to buy an Atlantis.

Paul Racer centerpull brakes (black)

Chrystal Fellow seat post

Brooks Saddle

Thin Gripster pedals

Mark's rack: front with basket

Pletcher rack: rear with TechLine light (battery)

water bottle cage

*water bottle and Carradice bag not included
