[RBW] Hunq-ish Romanceur build with Riv Bullmoose bars

2017-01-16 Thread Philip Kim
If you got the money no reason not go Paul's, but TRPs are lighter and have
dual action calipers which can be adjusted separately. Provides more even wear,
and you're not essentially bending the rotor to one arm to stop. It can also be
easily adjusted by the cable barrel adjuster as pads wear. So would go TRPs for
ease of adjustment, lighter, and even pad wear which puts it ahead but not by
much. But it's really ahead of Paul's because it's also 1/3 the cost.

No logical reason why.

Those frames look awesome, but I'm stuck on 700c/29 wheels. I'd go with:

Shimano Deore hubs
Surly rabbit hole rims
Avid BB7 brakes and levers
Microshift thumbies
Shimano XT shadow plus rear derailleur
Parts bin front der
Wide range 10spd cassette
Albatross/bullmoose/Osprey/etc swoopy bars

This will be my first time using disc brakes. Have you used the TRPs before? I
have been leaning toward Klampers, as they'very got reviews for solid stopping
power and the materials seem better for longevity.

What's the fundamental difference between centerlock and 6 bolt?

I would use TRP spikes or Spyres, XT RD 11-36, velocity blunt sl, center lock
discs

2017-01-14 Thread Zach Duval
I'll ride it as a MTB, to complement my Hillborne, up mountainous terrain and
to the mountains from home (a versatile gear range is preferrable). I'don't
like to take it on the MT section of the Divide trail, or from Kalispell to
Banff and back at the least.

I plan to run 26" wheels, with 2.3 or so knobbies, probably on Velocity Blunt
35s, as well as RTPs eventually.

2017-01-14 Thread Patrick Moore
What kind of riding will you use the Romanceur for? That will determine
gearing, of course, as well as other setup.

The frame looks well thought out, though I'd be somewhat between sizes as
far as top tubes go. I'll be interested to learn more about your build and
about how it rides.

And, I don't think it's too far OT at all; its Rivendellian or at least
Rivendell-esque, if not a Rivendell.

Drivetrain: If it were *mine*, this is what I'd do (27" wheel). Silver bar
end shifters. But I realize that I'm weird.

  46 28
14 89
15 83
16 78
17 73 50
18 69 42
19 65 40
21 59 36
23 54 33
26 48 29
30 41 25

[RBW] Hunq-ish Romanceur build with Riv Bullmoose bars

2017-01-14 Thread Zach Duval
Anyone want to play build designer on my dime?

Apologies if this is off topic (non-Riv frame), but I'm looking for advice on
building up my Crust bikes Romanceur frame into a Hunq-inspired trail bike.
(This is sort of a poor-ish man's Riv, but with disc brakes).

So far I've only got the bars and a SUNXCD crankset (46-28, after the 28 was
mistakenly shipped instead of a 30).

What additional drivetrain parts would you spec?
