[RBW] Meet Your Maker

2015-06-05 Thread Daniel M
I'm riding up to West Sacramento from Berkeley right now (currently surfing the
net in Walnut Creek) and plan to camp near the venue and ride the long loop
tomorrow. I'm expected at a barbecue in Sacramento tomorrow evening anyway, so
why not?

Only hitch is RBW list-relevance. I sold my Hillborne a few years ago and will
be on my frankenstein Surly Troll with flared drop bars. Feel free to say hi if
you see me.

[RBW] Meet Your Maker

2015-06-05 Thread Eric Norris
Wonder if any other Sacramento-area list members will be at tomorrow’s “Meet
Your Maker” ride. I’m 95% committed to being there, on either my Road or
Quickbeam.

[RBW] Meet Your Maker Overnight and Skyline Park MTB Race

2014-06-30 Thread Manuel Acosta
Got the opportunity to do a Meet your Maker Ride Overnight in Skyline Park
of Napa.
Met and geeked out with some bike folks; many that make really nice frames.
Curtis of Retrotec Inglis Cycles was the man with the plan who led
the pre-ride the night before the race. Skyline park was no joke. I found
out after the race that the course used routes from the MTB world
championship. Really hard, gnarly course, even had a special Rick Hunter
Gnarly section. Pretty funny to be riding it with my Hillborne. I was able
to drag Tom and Brendan who came with their vintage Ibis and fat-bike
Pugsley, respectively. Which made us stick out like sore thumbs during the
ride. No problem despite our different bikes or attire we still had a blast
and didn't die during the ride. I hoped that Brendan and Tom were planning
to race but after the pre-ride they decided that they liked their teeth.
The pre-ride went well found out that there was a lot of running and a lot
of stupid downhill steps. Perfect for my type of riding. So I raced with my
Hillborne and it wasn't that bad. Lots of the downhill and plowed through
with the only knobbie tires that would fit my clearance some prototype Old
Cazadero tyres from Soma Fabrication that Evan let me try. Was doing well
till slow leaked and pinched flat during the final lap. User error running
way to low. Hell the whole damn race was user error. Had to walk the rest
of the way back. By the looks of lots of the racers they thought I was
clearly riding the wrong bike. I didn't think I was riding the wrong bike.
Felt fine.
Had a blast regardless of the flat.

Pictures Proved that you should ride/race the bike you have:
