[RBW] Pedals, MKS XC Bear Trap III vs. MKS Bubble Pedals
Hi Everyone, I decided to get new pedals for the bike I'm building. First I went to my LBS (Cambridge Bicycles) and they suggested the Simworks Bubbly pedals - I really liked the spin on them and the looks, but unfortunately they only had the olives in stock. They sent me to the Simworks website, but the polished were sold out. (Their next order was going to be in about a month at best) Reading through the forum I saw good comments on the Blue Lug Bear Trap III and ordered them in silver. They arrived today and I'm surprised because they feel much less smooth than the bubbly ones. To be fair they are much less expensive $62 vs $100 but still, is this normal? Is it the lack of sealed bearings that affects rotational performance? Will I feel a real difference if I go with one over the other? Thanks for your opinions and knowledge. Re: [RBW] Pedals
+1 for the Catalyst pedals. I had the original Catalyst pedals on 2 bikes, and replaced them with the new EVO Catalyst pedals. These are the most comfortable pedals I've ever used. I like platform pedals and to date the original Catalyst pedal by Pedaling Innovations is my hands-down favorite. Haven’t tried the Evo. https://pedalinginnovations.com/choose-your-pedals Jay Lonner Bellingham, WA Sent from my Atari 400 > On Jun 2, 2020, at 1:53 PM, Patrick Moore wrote: > > All SPDs at this point, though I've tried too many kinds to count. All SPDs at this point, though I've tried too many kinds to count. XTs or XTRs on the commuter and dirt road bike, Dura Ace SPDs on the gofast. I actually like clips 'n' straps 'n' slotted cleats, particularly with the wonderfully well made MKS RX-1 pedals and their anniversary UBS Lite (MKS has some very weird nomenclature; I had a pair of cheap but very nice "Esprit" pedals) but since I ride even the gofast on the occasional dirt road, the SPDs work better. I found that entry and exit was considerably easier with slotted cleats and sem-tight straps than with KEOs. I find I need retention since I pull my foot off the pedal (or out of the shoe back when I wore slip-ons and clips / straps). I recall the early days of clipless pedals, when all sorts of new designs were being tried -- Grafton, Sampson are 2 I used; that weird one that consisted of a spindle with bearings and roller over the spindle, and "claw" cleats to grip the roller. Lightest pedal on market, though. Patrick Moore, who is also on a second pair of very retro, 1980s Shimano SPD shoes (thanks again to the donor!) -- most comfortable I've worn. [RBW] Pedals
I saw an interesting article about innovative pedal design and it got me to thinking. Why do I use the pedals that I use? I like platform pedals after using clipless for many years for both road riding and single track. My current are Shimano steel. Which pedals do you use and why? [RBW] Pedals and Cycling Shoes for Feet Shaped Feet
The idea ought to be simple. Shoes that allow the foot to function freely and properly, in foot shape. Trouble is, shoes aren’t foot shaped. They are modern foot binding devices that deform feet by constricting them in too narrow and unfoot shape a container. Especially if you go barefoot 95% of your off bike time. Cycling shoes are even narrower... https://thegrid.ai/withabandon/pedals-and-shoes-for-feet-shaped-feet-and-fixed-gear-riding With abandon, Patrick www.CredoFamily.org www.MindYourHeadCoop.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Pedals
Started with platforms Went to clips, then to clip-less Finally: platforms When I got back into cycling someone actually pointed out the Riv site to me. I read the articles, tried some stuff out. The Shoes Ruse was one of the articles I read more than once. I tried flat pedals with my vans and boat shoes and didn't like it. Once my soles were wet they had issues staying on the pedals and were not fun to spin in. So I went clipless and didn't have many of the issues other people had with them. I picked the double sided Shimano ones and they were fine. Then I went camping a few times on my bike and decided it wasn't fun even to wear the SPD MTB style shoes around camp so I picked up some breathable meshy hiking shoes with good tread on the bottom. Now even when wet the non SPD side of my pedals feel good and don't slip. Turns out I didn't have the wrong pedals before I just had the wrong shoes. I can't imagine clipping in again anytime soon. - Ryan -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
