Re: [RBW] Rambouillet Touring Upgrades
+1 for the Tubus recco. I've got Tubus Logo Evo's on 4 bikes. They are bullet proof. On Monday, July 20, 2015 at 12:20:53 AM UTC-5, John Serrao wrote: > > Tubus stuff looks really nice. Tubus stuff looks really nice. Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't know of tubes until now. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Interesting that you could do it comfortably on 32s. I'd love to try and squeeze these 38s onto my bike but I think that might be a step too far. I'm going up the Appalachians on a pretty gravelly trail so similar terrain perhaps. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Rambouillet Touring Upgrades
I rode my blue Ram today over a course that included a fair bit of coarse pavement. I put a HOW made wheelset on that uses Velocity Aeroheat rims on Paul hubs. It's really a cyclocross set up, but works great. The rims are a bit wider than standard road rims and 1 1/2" tires work very well on them. The smallest tire I've tried or would try is 32 mm, but bigger is better. Very nice ride, btw. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Rambouillet Touring Upgrades
John: I don't know the vintage of your Ram, but the 58 cm blue Ram I owned had clearance for 35 mm Kojaks with a lot of empty air around all sides. I am confident I could have installed fenders over those 35s. (Note: I never measured the true width of those Kojaks, but FWIW, they were mounted on older Open Pros and my brakes were some sort of Shimanos with 57 mm reach. I had photos of this setup, but deleted them when I sold the Ram.) As for racks: Tubus, Tubus, Tubus. I say this as someone who as spent $$$ on customs (because customs are prettier). My Ram had a Fly, and it carried 40 lb with no problem. Tubus makes solid aluminum clamps for the fork that will allow you to mount a front lowrider; the Tubus Tara is obvious, but IIRC, these clamps also let you mount the Duo. [RBW] Rambouillet Touring Upgrades
Long time Rambouillet rider on a bit of a custom build I did myself: 9 speed ultegra components on a ritchey cross wheel. Typically I'm riding 32 vittoria randoneurs but I'm currently gearing up for a 350mi tour over hardpack gravel and looking at my tire options. I want to put cyclocross with Kevlar reinforcement on the bike. I really like the continental cyclocross ride tires riv is selling, which they say come out to being 38-39mm in practice, but I'm worried the frame can't handle them. Any guidance? I've got tektro Quartz r730 brakes with no fenders so clearance looks good there. And my wheels would take them no problem. Just not sure if the frame clearance is sufficient. Also wondering about any rack recommendations you guys might have. Probably looking to Frankenstein something together for a front rack and upgrade my rear rack to something nice. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
