Re: [RBW] Re: 64 cm Orange Ram Update
All good points. One more observation: watching this list the last year, I've found frame sales tends to go better for the seller than full bike sales. Not that you can't sell complete bikes, but many of the posters here (myself included), tend to build up their own rigs and often have enough spare parts banging around to complete at least one bike (again, myself included). In addition, many of us have personal preferences for parts and personal needs for stem length, crank length, gearing, handlebar width, etc. That said, if it was a 62 and I was in the market for a road bike, I'd jump on it! I appreciate the comments of all. I could use the wheels and some other parts for another project, so I may strip it down and relist the frame alone in a few months. Maybe just think about it some more. Not sure yet. Patrick, I'll let you know if the cranks don't get used. If I didn't have a converted 650b Redwood if be considering this very seriously. FWIW, I paid $1000 shipped for my Redwood (came with 700c) with a very nice parts package that I sold off and nearly made my money back. Re: [RBW] Re: 64 cm Orange Ram Update
Totally reasonable, and a great buy for the right person. If I didn't already have one in that size, I would have leapt earlier. [RBW] Re: 64 cm Orange Ram Update
just a guess, but a 64cm bike is a BIG bike... even in Grant's "go bigger" mentality... $1,500 seems very reasonable, you just gotta find the right person that needs a bike that big... I can tell I have an almost brand new Ibis cross bike on http://forums.thepaceline.net for $1600 with no bites, and that's a $3k bike new... I think it's just a buyer's market right now with plenty of choices... if your bike was more my size, I might be all over it... an orange Ram is one of "grail bikes"... ;^) Good Luck! Re: [RBW] Re: 64 cm Orange Ram Update
Alan: I went back and looked at your original post (I find it useful to include the original FS post and photos in bumps) and it looks like a very nice bike and actually a good deal especially with rack and bags. But I've found over the years that demand will swell and dwindle; you might list the bike in a few months and find several offers; OTOH, there are dry spells. Also, I've found out literally dozens of times, that unless you adamantly buy and build cheap and used, it is very rare to get close to one's money back on the sale of a bike or frame. I seem to recall buying and then a couple of years later selling on a Ram frameset for about $600; granted I was owner # 2, if not #3, but this was a mid-curve 58 cm frame of the later model that takes 35s and fenders, and the frameset was in good condition. Demand for a 64 is bound to be less and more sporadic. I also recall selling a 56 cm, original model, original owner Sam Hill, nicely augmented with front low rider bosses, and finding less demand than I'd wished -- I finally sold it as a well built complete bike (but not as nicely built as yours!) for, IIRC, $1,200. This bike might interest someone on the Boblist, which I think is considerably bigger than the RBW list though there is great overlap; perhaps you are not a member of that list? I know that the Boblist listminders disapprove of joining just to sell, but this bike ought to interest so many that perhaps they'd make an exception. (Steve: are you listening?) Aside: If you ever consider selling the 175, 42/30, 50.4 bcd Sugino chainset, I'd be interested in talking. I'm rather surprised by the lack of interest in the Ram...is my pricing way off? How about $1500 for the full bike, $900 for frame? Feel free to make offers that are reasonable.
