[RBW] Re: 650B Rim Options

2008-12-17 Thread Bill M.

My Burley recumbent came with ZAC19's. The seams were horribly
uneven, and thumped badly under braking. And with a 20 front wheel,
that's a lot of thumping! I didn't care for the cheap Deore hubs,
either, the external rubber seals had way too much drag (again, the
20 wheel spins fast, so hub drag seems to matter even more than with
700's).

I built up some Velocity Aeroheats (20 front, 26 rear) with Phil
hubs for the 'bent, and have been much happier. I also have 650b
Velocity Synergies on my Kogswell, 26 Aeroheats on my Riv Mountain/
Expedition, and 700c Aeroheads on my Riv Road. No problems with any
of them. Can you guess what my recomendation would be?

these rims had been discontinued for quality control reasons.  Does anyone
know if there is a history of problems with these rims?  I don't want to
invest again in a set of rims and spokes only to find the rims don't work.

My wife's Glorius has a set of wheels with Velocity rims so I am familiar
with the good but pricey rims.  If I don't get the warm and fuzzies about the
ZAC 19 rims this is what we will use.

Velo-Orange now sells the Weinmann Zac 19 rims. You might want to go
to the Velo-Orange website and take a look at their comments about the
rims.
