[RBW] Re: A. Homer Hilsen ~ shades of blue color question!

2010-07-10 Thread Zaelia
I thought I had my AHH all figured out... thought it was a Toyo build,
but now, reading this post, I guess it's a Waterford build? Is there
any way of knowing definitively? If I email Riv with my serial no.
can they tell me or is there some place else where this info. might be
posted? Not that it matters all that much, I guess, but nice to
know.

My AHH is the lighter colour. When my frame arrived from Riv I was
disappointed. I thought the darker blue was more striking (although I
had only ever seen it in photographs). I've had my AHH for about
three and a half months now, and the colour has really grown on me.
As Eric mentioned, the paint has a lovely sparkle to it that really
pops in certain light. A while back I was in a LBS and saw an AHH
frame hanging from the ceiling. It was the darker blue, and although
I didn't get a real close up look at it, I felt better about my bike's
colour having seen this darker blue frame. The colour just seemed a
little bit more flat and lacked that sparkle. It was inside, however,
so it's hard to say how it would have looked in different light.

I'm sure you'll be happy no matter which one you decide to get.

[RBW] Re: A. Homer Hilsen ~ shades of blue color question!

2010-07-10 Thread jamison brosseau
I must say i think both colors are nice blues.
I think the darker blue is a bit more unusual, This blue is of medium
value, certainly not dark, still light enough to clearly see the lug
lines, yet dark enough to provide a nice (but not to heavy) contrast
with the cream accents. In fact I think this "darker" blue is more in
line with the atlantis coloring as that green is also a medium valued
color though about one half to one shade lighter than the darker blue
AHH.
On first impression I agree with Rene, that the lighter blue is more
attractive, but I think with time the darker blue has more of that
"magical" coloring, that one would grow to appreciate. In short the
darker blue is a longer read.
I generally find it easier when, the color is decided for me, I got
the Hilsen that was available ( a darker one), but would have been
perfectly happy with the other. With how nice this bike rides, i think
i could have grown to love any color.

2010-07-09 Thread William
Now that I'm pedalling free on multiple bikes, I'm tempted to geek out
and get custom Adidas Sambas for each bike:

www.miadidas.com

I've already got a blue and white one with A.H.Hilsen embroidery in my
shopping cart. That would be super saucy. I guess I should get the
bike before the shoes, though.

I will second that, pictures on the web do not do the color of the
Hilsen justice. There are details that you need to se in person, and
if you are even in the ballpark I woul dthink that the real thing will

Eric,

I was curious with the same exact question when ordering my AHH. Most
of the pictures I had seen were of the (standard?) darker blue which
was fine with me. The 59 I ordered however was in the "other" blue.
Jay told me it was quite similar, but with a slight sparkle to it. Not
overly concerned since I have not seen a Rivendell color I didn't
like. I have to say I was VERY happy when I got the frame. The blue is
just a bit lighter, but has an almost iridescent pearl top coat. Very
difficult to describe, impossible for me to capture via camera, but
beautiful all around!

My obsersevation is that the currently produced Waterford Hilsens are
a slightly lighter shade of blue than the Toyo built version. Of
course this all via Flickr pictures and the quality of the photo is
always a factor in that. Either one would be perfect in my book!
