Isn't it cool that you just hop on a Rivendell & it just feels right. What a nice build. Hey, you even got the Bill Lindsay approval endorsement. :-) dougP On Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 7:39:59 PM UTC-7, Doug Williams wrote: > > At last! My new A. Homer Hilsen! [RBW] Re: At last! My new Homer!
Congratulations on a beautiful bike! I'm only suited for Rivs at the stouter end of the spectrum but it was the A. Homer Hilsen that drew me to RBW. Specifically, it was the video of Mark assembling a Homer from Riv's shipping box. I've loved that bike ever since. On Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 9:39:59 PM UTC-5, Doug Williams wrote: > > At last! A properly dressed Hilsen, for sure. Those wheels (like a killer pair of shoes) really make this bike... Looks fun to ride. Congratulations. Doug, Beautiful Homer! Enjoy the ride. I'm with Hugh-- it is a fast bike. There's just something about riding it that makes me s happy. Just Beautiful! It looks fast just sitting there. Love the tires/fender combination. How fun to be close to Riv Headquarters. RE: [RBW] Re: At last! My new Homer!
Well, my new Homer is running the Soma Grand Randonneur GREEN (lightweight, only 300 grams) tire 650b x 42mm on Pacenti SL23 rims and Shimano LX hubs. 32 spokes on both wheels. My other bike (Novara Safari) has 38mm (measured) Schwalbe Marathon Supremes on Alexrims DP17’s with 36 spokes. So yes, the wheels account for a significant portion of the speed gain. And the Homer is lighter as well. But even given all that, I can’t scientifically account for the HUGE gain in speed. But again…who cares?
