[RBW] Re: Bar-end brake levers on Albastache?

2018-09-01 Thread Garth

Bar end brake levers are great for bars such as both Albas and the swept
back(non drop) ones . Easily activated with just a pinkie and/or the next
finger. I find it more easily accessed too , I can't put it into words
it'll just be apparent as you use them.

Kai, I hear that often by those that have never used them. I've gone
through some brush and frankly I can't see it happening even if I tried. If
you are running THAT close into really knarly stuff, you could be brought
down regardless of the lever, not necessarily the lever. If we wanna play
the "anythings possible angle", gotta play it all the way for every "part"
including the rider !

2018-09-01 Thread Kainalu V.
Yup, Garth's right, my body has hooked on all kinds of stuff over the years.
Run the bar enders with confidence, I successfully used them as I suggested,
with interrupters up front. As long as there's no shifters to worry about the
bars won't be so busy as to be annoying, and so very practical!
Too many levers?...

[RBW] Re: Bar-end brake levers on Albastache?

2018-09-01 Thread Jeremy Tavan
I use and love bar-end brake levers on my albastache-cockpit commuter bike.
For shifting it has a shortened-and-rubber-capped Silver shifter on a
thumbie on the right side. On the curves, tandem stoker knobs provide
another grip location which I find I basically never use, so I'm thinking
about removing them next time I'm working on that bike. But the levers are
very convenient, and I can brake with them from all the various positions
around the bars. Recommended.

What a great idea, I hope you post a picture I have some Albastache bars
sitting around and I've had a mind to mount them on something...

I can't tell exactly the reach/height of your stem as shown, but a stem with
more rise, like a Dirt Drop will certainly offer more height so you could keep
the bar.

The VO Porteur offers 40mm more rise, if that is indeed enough, I assume you
are aware that they come in 22.2 or 23.8 ? With a 23.8 the bar end levers you
have will fit perfectly.

Yes, I went with the 23.8mm Porteur and installed the levers without issue.
Will keep the Dirt Drop in mind should I get the itch to experiment
further...

Fortunately, from today's initial ride, the Porteur (exactly as in
yesterday's pics) seems to have hit the sweet spot!

I have bar-end shifters with normal road levers on my albastache bars, and
have no issues.
