Re: [RBW] Re: Best allen keys?
Thanks. One reason I chose the folding collection is that I want sets for each of 3 bikes, and it was much cheaper to by the folding sets than to buy 3 each of the individual keys I need, 3 or 4 depending on the bike (5, 4, 2.5 or 3 for Shimano pedal tension, and a 6 for the 2 with NItto quill stems). I've 2 sets of Bondhus screwdriver-handled ball wrenches, and 2 good Park Y allen sets, as well as various allen bits for various handles; so for the workbench, I am already set. [RBW] Re: Best allen keys?
I have taken the GorillaGrip Bondhus folding tool with me for so long I can't remember when I bought it, but glad to see they still make it. It's the one that has 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 6mm hex size. I also have a an old Craftsman , and the two of them are quality . I carry an MT-1 for emergency use with my brakes but I'd never use it daily, it took me measuring 3 or 4 from REI before I could find one that was actually not way under spec, Park of course when contacted gave the usual song and dance about their tools being guaranteed for life but not guaranteed to be properly made to start with, apparently ! Not all their tools, just certain ones. For tires I also carry ye ol' Quickstick, man these are the best. I don't know when the last was I actually used a tire lever, and so glad for that ! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. The problem with many if not all of the multi tools I've used is that the allens are not of the best quality, and (IME) after some use seem to risk rounding out the allen holes. I prefer singles but if you prefer the folding sets they have a lot to choose from: http://www.bondhustools.com/ccp0-catshow/bondhus_balldriver_Fold-up_Tool_sets.html -Dave J On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:46:59 PM UTC-4, Patrick Moore wrote: > > I almost stripped the head of a cleat bolt this afternoon using my Park > MT-1, and I think I'm going to replace my various multitools with top > quality, loose allens -- I don't need much more than a 3 mm (?) for Shimano > pedal tension; 4 mm for cleat bolts, 5 mm for brake cable and seatpost, and > 6 mm for stem clamp and quill bolt. Its often cheaper to buy a set than individual. Look for Bondhus 12292 or HLX7MS (made in the USA) https://www.amazon.com/Bondhus-12292-L-wrenches-Length-1-5-6mm/dp/B000E7ZPT0 http://www.bondhustools.com/ccp0-prodshow/bondhus_12292.html -Dave J On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:46:59 PM UTC-4, Patrick Moore wrote: > > I almost stripped the head of a cleat bolt this afternoon using my Park > MT-1, and I think I'm going to replace my various multitools with top > quality, loose allens -- I don't need much more than a 3 mm (?) for Shimano > pedal tension; 4 mm for cleat bolts, 5 mm for brake cable and seatpost, and > 6 mm for stem clamp and quill bolt. [RBW] Re: Best allen keys?
Thanks, all, some good choices at reasonable prices (Bondhus especially), but I should have been more precise: are there any good ones in the short "L" shaped design? These will go in seat wedges. I see Bondhus has inexpensive folding collections; now I need to find a local source, or a mail order source that does not bundle the metric with an unneeded Imperial set. Further suggestions for short singles (preferred) or folding collections? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
