[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

2015-07-24 Thread 'Tim' via RBW Owners Bunch
I had a too long Technomic (10cm) with Mark's bar on my Roadeo. I switched to
an 8 cm DD but I had it bottomed out and tHe bars were just a tad high, so I
got a 6 cm Tallux and it is perfect. I thought it looked kind of funny too. But
I'm planning on using it on my Hunqapillar with some version of Albas.

I had a DD w/ some Nitto Rando drop bars on a Sam and loved it. Only time
I've been comfy on drops. Go for it.

I don't think that the DD stem looks bad at all; in fact I prefer the look
to huge exposures of quill. I wish others would make high quality, good
looking quill stems in a road style (ie, more svelte) with a similar rise.

[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

2015-07-23 Thread 'Clayton' via RBW Owners Bunch

I run a Dirt Drop stem on my Atlantis. I have for many years. I recommend
it highly. Points: The obtuse angle is better on your liver, spleen and
bladder in a head on accident than the acute angle of a regular road stem
(ex paramedic fretting). I have some spinal issues, and the ability to
raise the bars high is the best thing I ever did for my lower back and
neck. S comfortable. The seat level bisects the middle of the bar
hooks, so I can use the drops at least fifty percent of the time, instead
of always being on the tops and hoods. I don't look at the road right in
front of my wheel as much...lol. Eric, I would recommend you get the 100,
not the 80 mm stem. The stem raises your bars up and BACK quite a bit. I
like a short top tube and so I tried the 80 and it was way too short. Of
course that is all dependent on frame size, height, physical issues and
yadda yadda...Best of luck getting comfy.

[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

2015-07-22 Thread Eric
Well I'm thinking a 58cm Atlantis might just be a tad bit too long for me
in the top tube.

But I wanted to pair it with an 8cm Dirt Drop stem, hopefully it'll work!

Thanks!!

[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

2015-07-22 Thread 'hangtownmatt' via RBW Owners Bunch
Pros - If you run the bars 2 or more inches above seat height, I think the
Dirt Drops help disguise the extra long quill since it pivots approximately
midway. Seems to break things up ... to my eye anyway. Put some stem
shifters and/or a brass bell on the quill and that tall neck will virtually
disappear. Personally, I think the Dirt Drop looks far superior to a super
tall Tallux with a short reach. Another pro is the Dirt Drop is stronger
and less expensive than the Tallux.

Keep in mind mountain handlebars and road bars have different dimensions.
One requires 25.4 stem and the other 26.0. Be sure to get the larger so
that rather than having to purchase another stem to switch between the two,
you can simply purchase a $5 shim.

Do you have any recommendation about length of the Dirt Drop stem?

I have no clue which one to use.

[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

I actually quite like the look of the dirt drop with most bars other than full
uprights. Something sorta badass about it. I have the 8cm on my hunq with
albastache. I can't imagine going longer, but the top tube on the hunqapillar
is quite long. Not sure how it compares to the Atlantis top tube. I think the
8cm extends 6cm and the 10 extends 8... If that helps.

[RBW] Re: Dirt Drop stem with Atlantis?

2015-07-22 Thread 'jinxed' via RBW Owners Bunch
To me the Dirt Drop is to bring you up and back. The DD I purchased was
specifically for the mustache bar so I went 8. I would much rather err
being a little more upright, than a little too stretched out. If you were
trying to fit a bike slightly too small for you or with a short head tube
then the 100 might be the thing. Your goals with the swap should point
towards one or the other.
