Certainly doesn't look like a 56 as here's mine. Just looking at the head

Have to agree - that ad is kind of weird. Left brake lever is kind of
"bonked" in a bit. Even though they specify 56, it looks a tad smaller in
the photos.

I supposed it could be a relative or non-knowledgeable person selling for
the original owner, but it's reasonably light on details and Riv-love. You
could cobble the text together after a quick google search or two.

Eh, the CL bike could pass as a 54 or 55 and powder blue is not a stock AHH
color. It's a reasonable move to flag it for Tom.

[RBW] Re: Homer Hilsen stolen in San Francisco

2018-04-05 Thread C Sharp
Edwin,

Several things jump out at me. Nothing about this posting suggests that the
seller knows about and appreciates the bike he’s selling is a Rivendell — which
is what you’d expect if he had ever spent $3000 on it. Strange color in the
photos at the very least, but also non-drive side photos and no close ups of
components. Super generic ad that sounds like someone imitating a bike
salesman. Bad formatting.

Ultimately, just a hunch, but a lead that seems worth investigating.

Best,
Cameron

Looking back over Edwin’s comment, I realize that e/ correct plus the size is
noted as 56cm. Apologies to the OP of the CL for my disparagement of his ad and
to the OP of this post for a false alarm.

What do you find fishy about the ad? Except for their poor understanding of
the difference between "your" and "you're" of course.

Priced high, pictures of several potentially unique aspects of the bike,
and a posted serial number.

What made you think it might be the stolen one? The "powder blue?" I
couldn't tell on my computer monitor with those pictures if there was
anything unique about the color.

Also, let know Riv know directly. If a kind soul picks it up under

Ugh! Good luck. We had bikes stolen last summer. Two were recovered
around 15th and Folsom. I checked the tent encampments in those areas and
hadn't seen them in the afternoons or evening, but another person
discovered them during early morning commute hours. Both were 'bought' for
a $100. The folks had no idea their real value.
