It is highly unlikely that your 27' Mixte frame is 135 spacing. Are you 
planning to have the frame re-spaced? Mixtes (6 stays) are not as easy to 
just spread by hand and jam it in as a 4 stay bike. I know because I just 
put a modern wheel on an old Ross Carrera 27" Mixte (chrome-moly frame). If 
you are getting another wheel, a 130 would probably be easier to deal with 
and still available for 8/9 speed.
