[RBW] Re: My Riv AllRounder
This bike embodies the Riv spirit! Nice to to be able to fit those knobbies. Re: [RBW] Re: My Riv AllRounder
I've had these old Riv articles linked off of my blog for a long time but don't know that I've mentioned them here. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will see a bunch of files/pdfs of old reviews of Riv models and Grant interviews, etc.: https://sites.google.com/site/renorambler/Home Regards, On Wed, Jan 9, 2013 at 8:38 AM, Cyclofiend Jim wrote: > Bob - > > Best way to look at that is the Atlantis is the (continually) refined > version of the A/R. Bob - Best way to look at that is the Atlantis is the (continually) refined version of the A/R. The first three models - Road, LongLow and All-Rounder - really provide the roots for a Rivendell designs, but it's clear that the iterative process of design and testing has created beautiful branches. They've all influenced one another and have definitely benefitted from development of components - the Hilsen could not have come to be without the reintroduction of longer-armed brakes, for example. If you read back through GP's annual "wish lists", they often call for then-nonexistent bits which have since come to pass. Kickstand plates didn't start showing up until the intro of the A. Homer Hilsen. Then they morphed into the other models. [RBW] Re: My Riv AllRounder
Hi All, Nice pictures! When I first became interested ib Rivendells in the '90s, it was the All Rounder (and subsequently the Atlantis of course) that caught my attention. I could never afford either - by the time I mentally adjusted to the $1000 shipping-to-Australia cost they had spiralled way out of my affordable range (and I was deep in the trials of home ownership anyway). I guess that's why the advent of similar Taiwanese bikes has been a 'good thing'. However I subsequently became aware that Rivendell had made something called the Mountain Expedition as well. I'd be very interested to know what the differences are between the AR and the ME if anyone has first hand experiences to share? Thanks, Savvas. Apologies for my ignorance, but what are the differences between the A/R and the Atlantis, other than fancier lugs on the former and a kickstand plate on the latter? Comparison of A/R geometry posted on Cyclofiend (a treasured resource; thanks, Jim) and Atlantis figures in current Riv geometry document shows minor differences between the two models. Addison, Great pics and a great history of your bike. I can only wonder what changes the future will bring. Gotta love GP for his do-all versatile and beautiful designs. Classic and classy. I particularly like the moustache bar configuration...that is what mine wears...but it doesn't have that elegant Harlequin wrapping.. Wonderful set of images. Arguably, the A/R morphed into the Atlantis, and became the best-selling design of the Rivendell lineup. But, every bike which GP designs seems to be eminently versatile in its own way.
