practice does make perfect.

Re: [RBW] Re: New project

2016-06-09 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J. (Retired Partner)
The Rasta Clementine isn't finished -- I'm waiting for a package from Paul that
will have the appropriately colored brake levers, Motolites, and Melvin chain
tensioner.

And then I have to figure out a creative way to tape the bars in red, yellow
and green.

And yes, Steve P, while I'm waiting for the Paul package I was working on my
PJW-modified Raleigh, but I needed a bottom bracket tool for the SKF BB, so now
I'm waiting on that, too.

Which is how the Wilbury got finished!

yes I am looking forward to getting my custom mixte which will not be too

Pedals are standard MKS rubber block pedals, but I noticed an eBay item of a
dozen red rubber pedal blocks a while back, and bought them on a whim. Turns
out they fit very well into the MKS frame with minimal trimming. I like them
with the red Hetres.

Re: [RBW] Re: New project

2016-06-08 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J. (Retired Partner)
Thanks! People used the wooden rims for many decades, so I assume they're
practical enough. But alloy rims are almost certainly more practical -- for one
thing, if you are riding hilly terrain and have to ride the brakes hard, the
aroma of hot wood is noticeable, which can't be ideal. But I use them mostly on
bikes without rim brakes, and mostly on bikes where the likely riding terrain
is very flat -- as charity auction beach cruisers with drum brakes, mostly.
This Wilbury will serve as an errand bike around town, so the rim brakes are
fine. My only other bike with wooden rims is a fixed gear A.N.T. Truss Bike,
which has a rim brake for backup but on which I can modulate speed without it.

And they are awfully pretty!

[RBW] Re: New project

2016-06-08 Thread Bill Lindsay
I was joking around. I still think BRG is a boring color for a bicycle,
but the color of the bike is not super important to me. Even though BRG is
my least favorite color, a beautiful bike in BRG is still beautiful. If
you gave me 100 different color choices to paint a frame, and BRG was one
of the 100, it would be near the bottom of the list. A Pudge-built Riv
always has plenty of eye candy for me that I can ignore the color of the
paint.
