Not trying to convince you to do anything - just complete my own thoughts, 
at this point.   I just checked again to see if my recollection was wrong, 
but it isn't.   Ram is indeed shorter than the same size Quickbeam, despite 
charts saying otherwise.   (It's closer to a cm difference than a full 
1/2", though.)  Or perhaps they might both be accurate, but specified 
differently:   ie.,QB is 58cm *actual*, where Ram is 58cm *effective*. 

Still can't find the quote by Grant, but here's one from Sheldon that seems

My 53 Bleriot is a 77.5 so with a 54.5 TT and I love it.
But I use a 6cm stem with Noodles and bars a little below saddle. Fisful of 
seatpost. So I don't want to experiment with anything longer. I have a short 
reach.

81 pbh

A 54 Rambouillet frame:
gets me a 55TT and 79.1so. I'll also need a 6cm stem with noodles for that TT 
length.

56 frame:  55.5 tt. But Im pretty much at my max at 55. I'd have to rotate the 
hoods even higher on my ramps to make up for it. Also, the 80.8 so maxes out my 
81 pbh.

Not interested in experimenting with higher bars.

If someone wanted to trade their 56 Rambouillet frame for my 52 blue Sam frane 
I might consider it.

Would be interesting to ride a 700c Rivendell!

Are you looking at the geometry charts and saying you like shorter top 
tubes than this particular bike features, or are you saying you prefer 
shorter top tubes as a general preference?   If the later, you might still 
consider.   I can't remember where it's written, but Grant once said 
something to the effect of "we designed the Ram with shorter top tubes than 
our other bikes, for their respective size, because we wanted to encourage 
people to buy the next size up."  

Additionally confirming this (and also making the geometry charts slightly 
suspect to me) is my own comparison between my 60 Ram and my 60 Quickbeam. 
  The charts indicate the same 58cm top tube length for both but, in 
reality as measured with a tape, the Ram is actually 1/2" shorter than the 
QB.

I'll keep searching for that quote...

I like blue Rambouillets the best. I fall in the category of a 56, but I like 
shorter TT's so I would get a 54 if I were to get one.

As it turns out, the seller lives close by so I checked out this bike this 
afternoon.  I've always kinda-sorta lusted after something lighter & more 
sporty than my Atlantis, and this seemed a good price.  Cut to the chase, 
this is a Very Nice Bike.  Ticks all the boxes of lighter & sportier than 
my Atlantis (well, duh!).  I'd forgotten how fast light wheels spin up.  
Unfortunately for me the size is too small BUT if you're a bit under 5'11" 
it could be a fit.  Seller includes a rack & panniers so you really get a 
nice package.  

I've not got the critical eye of some but to me the bike looked in 
excellent condition.  Everything right'n'tight.  8 speed 13-34 cassette; 
triple crank with 36 & 46 rings (seller has some granny rings if you want a 
triple).  The sizing chart in the Rambo catalogue lists 81-83 cm PBH & 
height of 5'5" to 5'-9" for the 56cm.  I think that's right since my dims 
put me on a 58 (same as my Atlantis).

My size, though thankfully not my city (even if it's in my state). Dodged 
another bullet.

Actually, for those who are thinking about a Ram, and especially a new one, 
Alex Cycle in Japan apparently has a few left. They list 50, 52 and 56cm 
blue ones, and 50 and 52cm green ones. Not even $1600 shipped to the US.

Must be strong. Must not hit "Submit My Order"...
