I remember watching the video introducing the staff at Rivendell and being amazed most at the shipping department section! I used to help with shipping/receiving for out small family run business when I was in high school and can tell you we couldn't even come close to what Jenny and her crew are doing. Like others have said, every package I've gotten has been a delight to exam and open, so much so that I feel somewhat sad when it is all done. "Well done!" doesn't even come close! Not only do the packages ship at blazing speed, but unpacking them is a delight. And I don't mean the normal, run of the mill delight of shiny new parts, but the awe and wonder of how everything fits so perfectly and is so well protected. Shipped means picked, packed, boxed, labeled, prepared for pickup that day at 4pm (in the case of UPS, which is 90 percent). If USPS, it means boxed and taken to the post office that day. Everybody here knows the best-run, most clocklike department here is shipping. A couple of times a year a guy will apply for an "entry level" position here (wants to design bikes in a year), and suggests, "I'd even start in the shipping department!". The insult isn't intended, but there's no better way to start off (and end!) on the wrong foot. Thanks to all who like our shippers! What the heck are you doing placing online orders at 2 am? You can't be behind Pacific Time (I am 2 hours behind a lot of my clients, which is a pain). I once placed an order on Monday morning from Wiggle or somesuch for tires, standard shipping. I saw the DHL truck leaving my driveway after dropoff on the following Wednesday afternoon at 3:30. That may well have been a fluke, given that orders from SJS have never taken less than 5 business days (I haven't ordered much from Wiggle). Sam frameset shipped on Monday, dropped off at my FedEx location this morning. Not bad for California to Iowa. What made me smile was my name scrawled in magic marker along with FRAGILE on all sides and a few large smiley faces/random artwork. In today's pre-packaged, robot-picked, barcoded shipments from some online 'store' I appreciated knowing a human valued their job and my shipment enough to have a little fun and show the human touch. Never mind the fact it will take me most of the night to undo that world-class packing job! Usually when they ship something to me I check the tracking and upsfedex says that a label has been created and upsfedex is waiting for the items to be picked up or arrive at their facility. So sounds like it hasn't physically shipped yet. But it's great that Rivendell packs it and contact the shipper so fast to get the ball rolling. Rivendell definitely does everything they can on their end to ship quickly. Some companies it takes days for them to even get it to that point so you lose more time that way. I think every single order I've placed with Rivendell, aside from pre-order stuff, has shipped the day I ordered or the following day, with next day delivery. They're consistently the fastest-delivering bike parts source I've used, even faster than Amazon Prime in many cases.
