[RBW] Re: Rivendell Ribbit Brakes

2011-06-24 Thread Corwin
I have the Ribbit brakes on one bike. I also have experience with
Tektro Oryx as well as older cantilever brakes.

When Mark put Ribbits on my Bianchi - he showed me how he secures the
post of the brake pad in a vise, and gives the pad a gentle whack to
create toe-in. So far, they have worked fine. Not as much power as the
Tektro Oryx - probably less than the CR 720s as well.

If I were you - I would go with Tektro Oryx or CR720s. Tektros are
much easier to set up.

[RBW] Re: Rivendell Ribbit Brakes

2011-06-24 Thread Damian
Hi Jason,

I have them on my Quickbeam. As you mentioned they have no toe-in
adjustment. I've never had problems with squeaking though. Their main
disadvantage compared to, say, Tektro CR720s is that they haven't got
microadjustment screws so you have to get it right and tighten the
main bolt. That said, if you take your time it's not a problem in my
experience but I have a park tools cable puller thingy... makes it
much easier.

So, all told, unless you prefer the aesthetics of the Ribbit brakes,
I'd get the Tektros - why not make it easier for yourself.
