careful, he'll take you to task. He came after me when I cited specific
examples that I new what he paid and relisted it for 5 times the price.
I actually have bought one item from him, a Campy Chorus DT friction
shifter to match the other side I bought in auction. It was in one of his
sales and it was realistically priced for my need.
But when he called me out, he basically called me cheap for only having
bought one item from him and being such a bad customer.
He also has friends on almost all the bike board and especially CR, who
defend him as a purveyor of the hard to find.
But compared to being his good customer, I take being a bad customer as
compliment to my intellect.

I think I bought a mid-'90s 8-speed Shimano XT crank from him. It was NIP
and probably a little over-priced, but I dearly love those cranks so I went
for it. I don't regret the purchase, but a lot of his auctions are simply
ridiculous.

[RBW] Re: Seriously disturbing

2010-03-09 Thread Garth
Eprey is likely a good bet of course. TA Zephyr's pop up every now and
then, as do vintage Ritchey's, Shimano 600 triples, and Sugino AT's
and the like. The thing is you have to look every few days on
eprey, as some items are sold first come, first serve.

Of course, TA still makes the Carmina. mid 150's Q. $400 from
Bilenky. Some people have resorted to the compact double to keep a low
Q. Pro's and con's to it, for sure. TA also makes a 110 BCD double
crank called the Vortex, a 149mm Q factor. I've only heard of Euro
Asia Imports selling the arms for about $280. Both the Carmina and
Vortex are modern designs, not the wet-noodle vintage Cyclotourist
type cranks TA made .
