[RBW] Re: Swift Industries Panniers
Ray I really stroked my chin over these last year when they were $175 a pair but the dimensions weren't quite big enough for me. I grocery shop every week and find my cheapo Banjo Brothers / $50 set just work well. http://www.banjobrothers.com/products/panniers/market-pannier/ They're just a lit On Oct 19, 10:14 am, Ray wrote: > It was a recent post by another list member that coaxed me over to > Swift Industries where I found the Mini- panniers in waxed canvas. The folks who run Swift Industries are friends of mine. It is a cottage industry operated by two people, Jason and Martina, who are committed environmentalists, bike commuters and bike advocates. They were instrumental in starting the community bike workshop at our college. If you are interested in supporting a small, sustainable businesses in general, and small bike businesses in particular, then this is the ticket. I also know that they will customize their products for their customers. Ray, I have the rear panniers in waxed cotton and I would heartily recommend them. They are very well built, waterproof (at least in the one storm they have been in), and quite stylish. Martina and Jason were great to work with. john On Oct 19, 1:14 pm, Ray wrote: > It was a recent post by another list member that coaxed me over to > Swift Industries where I found the Mini- panniers in waxed canvas. I spoke on the phone with Martina at Swift Industries earlier this week. She was really helpful and offered several great ideas for making a porteur bag that would work for my bike. Seems like a great company making some excellent bags. I have the Swift Porteur bag. It is very well made and good looking. The codura is thick. Stitching excellent. Martina asked me about and included some custom features at no extra charge. The bag gets a lot of compliments which is neither here nor there. However, the bag lead to a meaningful conversation with one of the best looking Whole Foods cashier women in town which morphed into a riding date. Highly recommended! I've got a pair of the Short Stack Panniers in waxed canvas which are very similar to the pics on their site and I love 'em. They were very easy to work with; I never did speak to them in person, but my order was spot on and arrived ahead of schedule. I've been using them on the Atlantis extensively. If you swing by the shop you're welcome to check them out. Re: [RBW] Re: Swift Industries Panniers
Thanks, Harry, and all who have responded -- I pulled the trigger on a pair of the Swift Mini Stack Panniers last night in waxed canvas. Looking forward to using them. What I like about them vs. the V-Brand set sold by RBW (Riv-content for the thread) is that they are not joined together as one unit. I can use one or both, depending on the load. I also like the Swift use of an interior "neck" with two draw cords (similar in design to the Acorn bags). That will keep the contents dry AND/or dust free when over stuffed. I also really like the accessible exterior pocket on the side and in the lid. The bag is just the right size for my typical commuter loads. Lastly, the company is cottage sized, the bags MUSA all the way, and other list members like them. All good enough for me! Oh, and I also dropped an order yesterday to RBW for a couple of more V-Brand bags (I really like the V-Brand stuff a lot) and another pair of MUSA pants (also among my fav's). Life is good on two wheels. Oh, and GO GIANTS!!!
