[RBW] Re: Tandem Dreams
I thought I read that the Mercian tandem is a bronze brazed Lugless frame? I would like to upgrade our '95 Trek TIG welded steel tandem, but my spouse is not that serious about riding. I'd love to find an older Mercian single to restore... it's one of the Mfgers I seach for routinely. ~Mike On Jan 14, 6:12 am, "Bill M." wrote: > US buyers don't pay VAT, so $3200 - 3500 for a frameset at today's > exchange rate. > > Steve Rex, my 'local' builder, gets $2995 for a TIGed tandem frame, > and $525 for a fork. US buyers don't pay VAT, so $3200 - 3500 for a frameset at today's exchange rate. Steve Rex, my 'local' builder, gets $2995 for a TIGed tandem frame, and $525 for a fork. Fillet brazed goes for $3595 + fork. I'm sure the Rex is a stiffer bike and that Steve can offer more sizing options, but if you've gotta have that lugged mojo the Mercian isn't such a bad deal. [RBW] Re: Tandem Dreams
A good rule of thumb for tandem costs... expect to pay 3X the price of a single bike of equivalent quality. But they are a heck of a lot of fun and can make or break a relationship. My wife and I love our Bilenky Touring Tandem. In fact her very nice dressed mid-80's Sequoia is feeling lonely and blue.
