That is terrible new I hope you find the bikes. I know there are some very
active Tuscon Instagrammers who might be able to spread the word better.
I happened upon this advice on how to describe losses to the insurance
adjuster that may help.

Sorry to hear about your bikes. I will do my best to keep an eye out.
Fortunately they are both very distinct bikes. I understand your pain,
having had 2 bikes stolen in Tucson. I agree with everyone's advice with
checking local bike stores. I would also advise posting a notice at BICAS.
Checking any pawn shops within a few miles of your house would be a good
idea. I believe that the Tucson Police Department holds an auction once or
twice a year to sell recovered bikes. Might be worth a look. Good Luck!

[RBW] Re: Tucson Stolen Bike Alert

2018-04-25 Thread Minh
Matt,

I can't really offer any advice other than my sympathies, the bikes are
just things that can be replaced but the sense of security, trust in people
is much more difficult.

I would echo what Bob suggests, while we tend to see a Riv or Handsome and
know what they are there are plenty of folks who only see a retro bike with
no idea of their provenance/value, so definately share a picture with local
shops and get the word out to local groups or Coops so they can keep an eye
out for them.

[RBW] Re: Tucson Stolen Bike Alert

2018-04-25 Thread Bob Lovejoy
Matt,

Really and truly sorry to hear of the break-in and theft. I have been
trying so hard to maintain some semblance of faith in people but that is
obviously not easy. I hope it all works out as well as possible.

In moments of weakness (for looking at bikes), I use SearchTempest to scan
Craiglist's from across the country. I know you will have much to do with
everything else but it might be worth trying at times.

https://www.searchtempest.com/

You can set how much distance from where you are to search. I run it in
Chrome, with the "Direct Results" option checked. I also had to tell
Chrome to allow the site to open multiple windows but it has worked well
for me. I am not sure how it would work if you found your bikes on a
different city's CL but a call to their police department would seem like
the next step.

I would also make sure as many of your local bikes shops as possible are
aware of the theft and have the info and hopefully pictures. Even if
someone buys it cheaply, not knowing the truth about it, the bike(s) could
end up in a shop for repair or whatever.

People here will be in the lookout. Let us know of any updates. Again,
sorry you are having to go through all of that.
