Re: [RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-31 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
Mark, I’m kind of coming around to the idea of the Pletscher. I used the
mousetrap yesterday and it was a cool feature, even I have to admit. And you
really don’t see the rack under the bags, it’s true. I need the pannier rails!
I’ll order them when I get back to Vegas end of this week. The blue is
different and better, I think. I love it with the gray accents on the bag. I’ve
looked at many other brands of panniers and there are none so classy as the
Sackville line. Rivendell has the market cornered on THAT.

Fantastic!

Unless my monitor is way off, you were correct, it looks like the latest
blue Sackvilles are a different blue--more yellow, with the original
leaning toward a red bias. Looks awesome with the aqua-tine! (And the rack
looks so pretty and useful. Wait till the first time you clamp something
down with it !;^)

I think a Riv safety triangle from the back seat would add the perfect
splash of complimentary color. I also sense that they do get some drivers
to think just the teeny-tiniest bit. Which is something. Anyway, I have a
couple in circulation and rarely pedal from home without one. Cheery, too!

Hi Leah. Yes and Yes. You can see the bags on the Clementine in the middle
photo of my last post in this thread. I purchased both the pannier rails
and the tail light mount for the Clem rack. May get the pump mount as well.
I recommend the pannier rails as they position the bags a bit lower. I've
carried some heavy stuff in the bags on this rack, no problem. Currently on
my Trekendell, which is awaiting an overhaul and re-imagining this fall. If
the Nitto is your desire and will make you happy, definitely go that way.
But props to the Clem Rack, it's useful, and I think, attractive in an

[RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-25 Thread 'Deacon Patrick' via RBW Owners Bunch
Leah, The Clem rails work well with the backabike bag, and free up the top
rack for load without interfering with the panniers. And Mark's correct ...
the rack isn't seen with the bags on, and even less with a top load in
addition. The only reason I can see for going Nitto instead is load
assurance of Nitto, which seems engineered to handle more than the Clems,
though rated the same for each, I believe (using different criteria). That
is why I have Nitto on my bikes, because I jounce a load on rocks and roots
at speed. Me lassies take a more sensible load and speed than I do. Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick

I did it. I got the bags after weeks and weeks of hemming and hawing (I wanted
them in Royal even before I had the Clementine). But, Rivendell has no Nitto
medium rear rack in stock. The current rack on the bike is the loathsome
Pletscher, and it has no rails, and I am planning to sell it. Wonder if the
Nitto Big Back Rack from Betty can be moved to the Clementine... (See, I didn’t
have these stressors when I had but one bike!)

Or put my old B68 (springless version of the B67) on. I am considering the
copper river version of your saddle, however. But first, the blue bags! ❤️

I can relate to the fidgetousness of having more than one bike. It feels
like hubris.

Anyway, the cyan+dark blue bag combination is good. It was imprinted on my
brain by heavy use of Wordperfect 5.1.

[RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-17 Thread George Schick
I'm sure there are many on this list who have way more than just one (or
even just two) bikes. I myself have 4: a Riv road bike (Rambouillet), an
old early 70's Fuji Finest road bike (rebuilt and reconfigured as a
Resurrectio), a single-speed MTB (Surly 1x1), and a dual-boinger Trek MTB
(which I inherited, too). And I ride them all, according specialized needs
and usefulness. The Ram gets ridden on trails when conditions are fairly
good and for longer rides; the Resurrectio gets ridden on the trails when
conditions are poor and for shorter rides; the Surly is used as a kind of
general purpose utility bike to run errands, etc.; and the Trek gets ridden
during the late Fall and early Spring months when trail conditions are
pitiful. In other words, each one has a kind of niche usefulness. You
could do the same with those two Riv bikes you now own.

As far as packs and bags go, I'd recommend picking a neutral color that
goes with anything. Black is my favorite for that.

[RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-17 Thread 'Deacon Patrick' via RBW Owners Bunch
The critical key to bike and bag matching is mud and dirt. Remove fenders,
ride in mud and dirt, and it all takes care of itself from there. Grin.
However, since you have mud prevention devices on there, blue is the way to
go.

With abandon,
Patrick

[RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-17 Thread REC (Roberta)
Hi, Leah!

I LOVE the color of your Clementine and am so happy for you loving that
bike. It must be really super fantastic to already have you make up your
mind that it gets top billing, above Betz, something I never thought would
happen, you love it so much.

The grey and the green bags are nice, but the blue has personality, like
you!I suggest that one (BTW, if I didn't already have a bag for my AHH,
it would be a blue one).

Also, (this was going to be a surprise, but since you're talking about
putting patches on your bags), yesterday afternoon I ordered both NE and
West Coast 25th Riv Anniversary ride patches for you and me. They're
coming from two different locations, so I had them sent to me. I'd then
pack them up and send them to you.

Re: [RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-17 Thread Leah Peterson
Joe,

Thanks! I, too, love the color of the Clementine more than I imagined. I
thought it was a bit much next to my classy Betty Foy and Mom’s subdued lite
sage Cheviot, but that aqua has WON ME OVER. I like your theories on frame and
bag colors - they make sense to me.

Mark,

Guess what? That photo shows the blue in its true color. It’s the new one they
call Royal, and I have a Clembasack in that shade. It’s a great color.

More bikes? I would tip over. But ask me again if the Anniversary Mixte ever
happens. I think I could sell the Betz for it, but maybe not.

I admit to a high level of anxiety imagining something happening to this bike.
I love the name Clementine and this paint job and now I wish I had one extra
one just in case. It’s scary to prefer something this completely! I do hope the
Betty can find itself my favorite once more.

Gotta run for now! My sister and I are biking a 20 mile ride called The Chain
of Lakes.
Thanks for weighing in! Anyone else?
