[RBW] Re: WTB: 68cm Atlantis
Thanks, all! I'm 6'7", but mercifully my pbh is sort of 6'4"ish, round about 96.5 or 97, with a saddle height of 85.5 or 86 depending on a few things. As you can imagine, I spent years on (non-Riv) 60s and 61s running a ton of seatpost to make it work. My 60cm Platypus (love it) is going to survive these developments, as is my 62cm Appaloosa, but otherwise I'm gettin' rid of everything else. I couldn't say whether it's all down to frame size, but these big ones (Atlantis and 67cm Homer, QB isn't built up yet) ride great, and I think they look better than smaller bikes that are set up "big." I'm now definitely an apostle of "bigger is better" which, to be fair, is easier to say now than it was before! More of an event bike / camera bike. Noodles, triple, fenders dyno, this would double as an on road tourer with longer distances. My Bomba is perfect with the albatross but if I have to deal with head winds and 70 to 80 mile days I would rather have drop bar and 700x40-50's... It would be very close rack and design wise as my Bombadil just setup for longer distances. It will be the in-between of my AAH and Bombadil. I would then scale back the AHH a bit.. remove racks and fenders .. lower the bars about an inch below the seat and make it more of a go fast bike ... Now if I don't find the Atlantis .. the 69 AHH with canto's would do the job as an on road tour bike. Allow 700x40's with fenders and fill the bill nicely... it's what I'm currently looking at. I've asked them about it and the cost 150 to 200 more to change it out doesn't sound to bad... I already have a 67 AHH and it's riding nice and a great bike... the Atlantis would allow 700x50's and that is huge for flexibility in the long run.. so I'm still holding out. Kelly, I have similar thoughts for my new Atlantis and am now almost certain I am keeping my Bombadil. My problem is the Atlantis is so much like my 72cm Custom Mark N with Cantis that it is hard to justify keeping both. Nice problem to have I guess. Do you still have a 68cm Quickbeam too? I have just under the wheel clearance I would like on the Nobilette as is and have considered a 650b conversion that so many others seem to be making, but at our size keeping everything 700c seems more logical. I will give you a heads up if I decide to move my 68cm Atlantis this fall. Sincerely, Ryan -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. That sat and looked pretty instead of getting ridden. Tires and wheels look small enough on 700c and with the compass 700x38's out there I can't see any real reason :) On Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 8:37:58 PM UTC-5, Abcyclehank wrote: Kelly, I have similar thoughts for my new Atlantis and am now almost certain I am keeping my Bombadil. Kelly, What kind of build do you plan for your future Atlantis among your other great bikes? Maybe we should get together and have Rivendell make a special run of these. It would cost more to have Waterford make you one. Check the price list... [RBW] Re: WTB 68cm Atlantis Frame
Rob, That bicycle was more than I set my limit for - which was $1,400. The winning bid was close to $1,900. I'm really hoping someone has either an unloved bicycle or maybe is looking to upgrade replies to this post and comes through! Also, if anyone here knows of someone as described above that may not regularly read this newsgroup, please put them in touch with me. I'd be grateful! Thanks very much -- Amit On Nov 1, 8:47 pm, robert zeidler zeidler.rob...@gmail.com wrote: Wow, you just missed one on ebay last week. I'm on the look-out for a 68cm Atlantis, preferably just the frame, but would gladly welcome offers for frames with parts at the right price! The bicycle will be built and used as a full-time commuter and carry- groceries bicycle, while my A. Homer Hilsen will be used for everything else. I'm hoping to build it up as a 1x7 or 1x8 and fit it with albatross bars and Fat Frank tires for a relaxed, solid and cushioned ride. If any member of our Riv Family is seeking to place your 68cm Atlantis in a good home please note that I take excellent care of my cycles, keep them clean, and ride them daily. I'd love for this to be my commuter/porteur bicycle! Thanks for the heads up. I've been eye-balling that one and wondering if I should settle for the next best thing. The real next best thing is probably a Homer-Hilsen in a 69 frame.
