I would love to see Riv (or someone) start sourcing good quality <10 speed

stuff and how much more sense it makes for non-racing applications than
modern setups, it would be nice to get cassettes and derailleurs without
having to search for NOS bits and -- which is a deterrent to anyone who is

2014-11-26 Thread Mark Reimer
Agreed. I like using zip-ties to attach my Wald basket to the Nitto Campee
front rack on my Atlantis, primarily because I can cut them and remove the
basket in about ten seconds if I'd prefer to use my Swift Ozette bag.

Regardless of which setup I'm using, I find the Atlantis handles like a
dream with a heavy and high front load. I even strapped a 40 pound bag of
woodstove pellets to the rack, which was so tall that half the bag was
above my already high handlebars. I was able to cruise home on snowy trails
without an issue. It could be that I'm just so used to more aggressive
frame geo that the Atlantis feels great by comparison, but I've never felt
it needed improvement. I can ride with no-hands with a loaded basket/Ozette
without running into flip-flip issues too.

I wouldn't mind seeing a more deliberate/integrated front rack/LG Wald

Wald to a Nitto or porteur front rack, but it always seemed like a
workaround for a real solution that didn't exist. Wald is MUSA, no? Maybe
work with them to produce a sturdy purpose-built support and attachment

Earlier in the thread people mention the less-than-ideal front-loaded

[RBW] Re: What components do you wish RBW would start "making"?

2014-11-25 Thread Matthew J
One other resurrection - for a season or two Berthoud teamed up with SKS to
make a real nice composite/alu fender. Quality and looks are a head above
traditional SKS and it uses the Berthoud stainless steel fender hardware.

My only set is already in use. I've looked every for a NOS set to no
avail. It would be great to see these fenders on the market again.

Toshi who makes wonderful cotton bar tape is retiring (sometimes sells as
Toshi or Viva). Appears it is already too late to get the gold, even at
the Japanese places that ship overseas.

Riv seems pretty enthusiastic about Newbaums, which is certainly good tape.
But the color is not as rich, nor is the feel as supple. Would love for
Riv to develop a new source for lovely bar tape in Japan.

A 2 bolt seatpost with 25 mm diameter, so shims can be used on seat tubes
< 27.0 mm. A lot of 70's and 80's Japaneses frames used 26.8 or 26.6 and
a 25 with shim would be helpful

[RBW] Re: What components do you wish RBW would start "making"?

2014-11-25 Thread Deacon Patrick
Bikes. I want them to keep playing with bikes, and wherever that takes them
in what doesn't exist in the form it ought to exist for the way they ride.
Because they ride like I ride and they helped me lear to ride like I ride.
So just like I don't want to tell Apple what to create that will help me
function better int he world despite my brain injury, I don't want to tell
them what to create to help me ride despite my bludgeoned brain. They are
excellent at seeing what is needed and can see it in ways I never could. I
love and trust that about them, be it a bike, component, bag, clothes, or
anything else.

That's what is on my wish list for Rivendell. Thanks, Grant and company for
all you do!

With abandon,
Patrick
