How thick are your dropouts? Is it possible that you're bottoming out the bolt and serrated washer on the end of the axle that protrudes into the dropout before you're fully clamping the dropout?
I use the same hubs on my Quickbeam with no problems, I have found that they don't need huge torque (i.e. more that can be easily achieved with a standard 5mm allen) to keep things in place.
