A natural cork might do the job, or a rubber Velox plug.

[RBW] Re: bar ends for woodies?

2010-05-16 Thread Johnny Alien
I think he means mountain bike style bar ends like these:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31uaJgWGd1L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

THe answer is to get a set of Mustache bars and sell me that Bullmoose
set. :)

Seriously though I think the Mustache bars will provide more positions
and you can still use the wood grips.

[RBW] Re: bar ends for woodies?

2010-05-17 Thread Jeremy Till
I don't know of any mass produced woodie bar ends, but they might not
be hard to make...get a dowel of comfortable diameter, cut them down
to the length you want, miter the end so it ends up at a good angle
even with the backsweep on the bullmoose, then think of some kind of
attachment. Maybe some kind of hose clamp, or the band from an old
pair of (road) brake levers with a bolt going into the wood? You may
even be able to do it with some creative lashing...leather cord, or
good old twine 'n shellac?

RE: [RBW] Re: bar ends for woodies?

2010-05-17 Thread Frederick, Steve
Ritchey makes a bar end for bars with more sweep--the clamps are angled so that
they don't stick outward. I had a set on some 17-degree sweep bars I used to
run and they worked pretty well. I don't know how much sweep the Bull Moose
bars have but from pics it looks like at least that much.

They are just basic black barends so no aesthetic match for your woodies. I
suppose you could cover them in leather or something...

They're not Riv-ish but I have a spare set--contact me off list if you'd like
to try them.

Steve

Re: [RBW] Re: bar ends for woodies?

2010-05-24 Thread andrew hill
hi folks,

thanks to Steve for selling me a used pair of bar ends that i could experiment
with - i found that the cork grips slip over em pretty well, so i put em toward
the center of the bull moose bars and voila - another hand position! :)

here is a not-great pic of the cockpit that i snapped at a stoplight on my way
in this morning:

http://salamander.net/stage/woodandcork.jpg

forgive the inexpert trimming job on the cork :)

i definitely think and extra 5cm on the bars will help everything "fit" better,
but it works pretty darn nicely this way.

A file or a little sand paper will clean that right up.
