[RBW] Rust proof question

2018-11-10 Thread Andrew Huston
Maybe a dumb question...
Is it a terrible idea to spray some rustproofing material into a fully built
bike or should it be done on a bare frame? Are there any methods or products
that folks find to be best?

[RBW] Rust proof question

2018-11-15 Thread A. Douglas M.
I usually pull the wheels, bottom bracket, seat post and fork out and spray
away then give it a few minutes of gentle twirling.

Like a beautiful lugged baton.

Re: [RBW] Rust proof question

2018-11-10 Thread 'Eric Norris' via RBW Owners Bunch
Can’t see any reason why you would need to take everything off the frame, other
than to remove the headset, seat post, and bottom bracket in order to get to
the insides of the frame tubes.

Re: [RBW] Rust proof question

2018-11-12 Thread ascpgh
Framesaver-ing a built up bike is hard since access to the tubes (those
vent holes really won't do it) is obstructed and used to risk contamination
of BB and HS bearings (back when they were cup and ball) if left in place.
You do have to get the straw into the stays, top tube and head tube to
spray. Dropping the fork, pulling the seat post and removing the BB open
that access.

The nice part about cartridge bearing BBs and HSs is that doing these three
things to permit spraying your frame's insides isn't as complicated as it
was back during the cup and loose ball paradigm. If you have an LBS you
trust, perhaps they would help in the process.
