Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
That's a no-no on this saddle. It was one of the pre-aged saddles, and Brooks says no proofide on this model. The saddle felt beautiful under me for years, and suddenly it doesn't. I'll keep playing with angles, but I think time in the saddle might be the only remedy at this point. On Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 5:17:49 PM UTC-7, Lungimsam wrote: > > I suggest you proofhide it. [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
it may be that the saddle isn't wide enough for your sitbones. Measure the distance, then check it against your saddle. That said, I do have a sprung Flyer "S", if you'd like to consider a transaction. Care kit included. It has been laced. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lynnefitz/albums/72157624964119693 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
But this saddle worked before. Now it doesn't work. Sure, you lose fitness and firmness and stuff that used to sit on hard muscle is now sinking into something more jellylike, but that sort of discomfort takes longer than a mile or three to manifest itself. Something in the setup - angle (yaw) or height, perhaps? OP says tried many variations on up-down angle. Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
I'll second Frederick's advice. "Fine for years" tells me you've worn through its usefulness. The discomfort you describe is exactly my experience on cushy plastic saddles that are supposed to be "comfortable": 15 minutes is all I can do before they turn unbearable. I think your Brooks has hit the too soft stage. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
Sorry. I meant it got wonky again at about the 2000 mile mark so the tightening and proofhiding helped. Also, it needed the tilt returned to normal as it was a degree or so off. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
I am all about the split. I slowly switched over all my bikes to having saddles with a split. My fav that I have on two bikes now is the brooks CAMBIUM C17 S CARVED. The ladies cambium with the split. Best of anything I have tried. I also agree that a lot has to do with angle. I know my tendency when I first started riding was to put the nose pointed down too much. I totally seemed logical that if I am getting too much pressure on my stuff to get the nose as far away as possible. Now I realize it better to be totally flat or at least a tiny bit pointed up. Keeps you naturally cradled on the seat vs too much pressure from keeping you on the seat. [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
Now that I'm riding my bike more (thanks, knee surgery!) I've noticed that my Brooks B67S saddle isn't as comfortable as it used to be. Maybe it's because I need to toughen up my tuchus more, but I can barely ride to work comfortably, and it only takes me about 15 minutes to get to work on average. I've tried tilting the saddle up and tilting it down, but no matter what I try, my sit bones ander...sensitive areas really hurt after a few minutes. Chica warriors, have any of you ever experienced this? Is a different Brooks model the answer? I ride upright and have Bosco bars on my Betty Foy. I'm also a heavyweight, so I'm skeptical about riding around town (or anywhere) on a saddle that isn't sprung. Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
If your "sensitive areas" hurt after riding, consider one of the saddles with a split so that sensitive areas don't touch the saddle. I don't ride Brooks saddles for that reason. Brooks saddles work very well for a lot of riders, but for me, they are impossible. On Wed, Mar 16, 2016 at 2:51 PM, Cecily Walker wrote: > Now that I'm riding my bike more (thanks, knee surgery!) Re: [RBW] Saddle Advice Needed, Especially From the Riv Chica Warriors
I suggest you proofhide it. Leave it on overnight, polish it off with a towel in the morning. I had a sprung Brooks flyer saddle that was great outta the box. Started hurting my left sit bone after 500 miles or so. I proofhided it, especially focussing on the side that hurt. Stopped hurting me after that. Still confy today. It did get wonky again later (~200miles) and my privates started to feel the pressure. I tightened it one full turn (1/2 turn at a time over a couple days, I think) and liberally over proofhided each time. Back to being fine again. An RBW employee said that Brooks saddles are wonky and get wonkier later. Sometimes juat giving them time helps work out the kinks. I think its because the leather must always be changing though 99% of the time Ive found them to he fantastic saddles! I hope this helps and you get comfy again. I know how frustrating It can be trying to eliminate pain problems on a bike. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. If so, try tightening up the tension bolt before you give up on it totally. On Thu, Mar 17, 2016 at 9:06 PM, Joe Bernard wrote: > I'll second Frederick's advice.
