Unless you live in Hawaii. Then the only shipping option shown on the
website site is $22. So a reader (if ordered online) would cost $29. I've
mentioned this before to the folk at RBW. The only option they offer to
Hawaii these days is UPS 2-Day but in fact UPS does offer ground shipping
to Hawaii.

Having said that,. if I order and put a note in the order saying please
send it some other way I'm likely to get a lower rate (Priority Mail for
instance) but it's a bit disconcerting not knowing at the time of ordering.

This reminds me of all the folks who only want to ship CONUS but will ship
from CA to Maine with no problem even though to Hawaii is the same price
for most things and is actually closer (2400 miles from SF compared to 3100
or so to Portland Maine). :-)

Okay, enough complaining. I'm going to go ride my Quickbeam and not think
about it all. :-)

I just read some of the comments on the Blug.  Sheesh!  I sure hope that my 
starting of this thread wasn't interpreted as the same kind of whining or 
sense of entitlement.   I completely understand the hassle involved in 
shipping such a small item, as well as the effort to encourage new orders. 
  I wasn't trying to circumvent that or to cheat the system.  I was just 
anxious and trying to figure out a way to get ahold of one without 
burdening the fine folks at RBW HQ, who need to spend their time on 
profitable endeavors - *precisely so that it is possible for us to enjoy 
things like the Reader from time to time*.   Seven bucks + shipping is 
still a bargain.   So thanks again, Grant and Dave and all, and know that I 
(as most of us) do appreciate the effort.

Me too!

Longtime Riv rider and reader (since 1996) I can understand the reasons but 
still find it irritating. Living abroad the minimum shipping costs from Riv is 
$50. The Reader plus a one-buck-badge would be $58. And the badge would make it 
commercial goods, making me vulnerable for another 30,5% on the whole 
charabang, $76 in all!

I like the Readers very much but that would be a little rich for a paper 
methinks.

And not on the net either.  

So, if someone is ordering something and could send it in an envelope to Sweden 
I will be more than happy to pay for the costs.

Wouldn't you know it?  I placed a big order just a day before the 
announcement that the new Reader was available, but only if purchased with 
a legitimate order.  I don't need anything else at the moment.  If someone 
is placing an order soon, and plans to get the reader, would you mind 
getting two of them and forwarding one to me?  Will reimburse costs, of 
course.  And owe you a favor...
