[RBW] Styrofoam in a Ram bottom bracket shell?
Maybe it was under UCI weight requirements and the Styrofoam was needed to make it weight legal? -Said no one about a Riv. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. There's no telling how much faster you'll be now that you've gotten rid of all that extra weight :-) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Styrofoam in a Ram bottom bracket shell?
Joe and Ed beat me to it: +1 on original packing material that entered the frame versus escaped when broken up. They didn't use the box bike plastic cap solution since the seat cluster lug has a nice lug with an upward point that must be protected from deflection (or else the seat post wouldn't go in). The styrofoam was partially punched by the seat post lug and stopped by the top tube for a good shipping pad solution. I think Joe is right. When the ship the bike, they put a styrofoam on top of the seat tube that looks like a letter T to protect the lug. Maybe the lower portion that is placed inside the seat tube broke off and went down the bottom bracket. If the bike was ever packed and shipped, it probably got knocked down the seattube. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Speculation: To keep water out? Did Rivendell build it? They would know. Interesting story. Got any cool pics of the bike? It took me 14 years to finally burn out the Tange BB on my Riv built '04 Ram. While pulling it out, a big piece of styrofoam came out of the lug with it. Would anyone happen to know why that would have been in there? I didn't put it back in there with the new UN55 ha ha.
