Fellow Rivendellers:

What FDs work best on an Atlantis, set up with a triple? I bought mine from
Riv as a complete bike in 03 & here's the back story:

My Atlantis came with a Sugino XD crank with 24/36/46 rings & a Shimano
Deore FD (just plain Deore; no extra letters or numbers on it). Setting the
FD with as little clearance as possible to the chainstay, there is a large
gap between the outer cage plate & the big ring. I've always tried to get
that gap down to 1/16" on other bikes but this isn't possible on the
Atlantis. It's more like 3/8".

The bike shifted OK with the original rings (some pins & ramps) but has
always been sensitive about FD travel & a bit prone to tossing the chain
over the big ring. A few months back I finally replaced the original rings
with a 34 & 44 that I had "in stock". Now the chain tossing has become
annoying.

Just chopping off the bottom of the FD to allow it to fit closer to the
rings is an obvious kluge but if there's a simple FD replacement that's a
better fit I'd be interested in hearing it. What works for others?
