Those Dave Scotts are nice bikes! Best paint jobs out there as well!

Just cut and paste what DP wrote. A pretty nice summary of all the
pertinent arguments!

Amit... Show this friend your bike. Explain all the features that caused
 you to buy it.

Once he understands your decision process, he can map whatever elements
there are that carry to tri bikes.

Or... he'll understand he's asking the wrong person. Either way, he's got
 a start.

That’s the answer if he’s a good friend AND a triathlete.

Otherwise the answer is probably, Check with your LBS – they’ll fix you up.

You know what I ride and you know it is dramatically different from a
tri-bike, so why are you asking me? Are you asking me because you really want a
practical bike that you can ride in triathlons, that will look vastly different
on your 10 race days a year and be 99% as fast as riding a tri-bike, while also
being fun to ride on race day and every other day, that allows you to train by
exploring dirt roads and paths you didn't know existed until they beckoned to
your front wheel as you approached, that you would have missed on your tri-bike
even if you had seen it because you were focused on the road ten feet in front
of you because your handlebars were ten inches below your seat and your neck
didn't bend any further forward and even if you had inexplicably glimpsed this
gravel wonder out of the corner of your eye would would have had to deny your
inner exuberant, adventuresome kid because your tires are the width of your
thumb and inflated to the point they are pneumatic in name only? Because if
that is why you are asking me, I'm your guy! Otherwise, what ARE you thinking?

With abandon,
Patrick

2015-05-01 Thread Deacon Patrick
Yes, my answer would be different if they have no plans to enter triathlons
and this answer presumes at a minimum they want to get into triathlons. But
it is the answer I would give to an acquaintance as well as a friend. I'm
pretty stupid that way. It either leads to people running away or becoming
good friends. Grin.
