Re: [RBW] Re: Chilly Hilly?
+1 for getting on the first ferry and having relatively decent weather. Started a light rain about half way through my ride and I was across and ridden up to the CD before it really started raining. I didn't stop by pyramid for the beer though.. forgot about it (gasp!) in my rush to get home. It was nice to ride with you for a bit Brian. To the person who posted about bicycles, the black Kogswell 650b with ivory tires was yours truly. Didn't get any pictures but I did see a few Rivendell out on the road. Re: [RBW] Re: Chilly Hilly?
Here's my East Coast perspective on the Chilly Hilly - im visiting family in Seattle (I live near DC). I rode Chilly Hilly with my son-in-law, but didn't mention to the list because I knew we were going to take a later ferry. We rode to the ferry from West Seattle and after getting caught because the lower bridge was opened, we took the 9:35 ferry. First half of the ride was cloudy, a occasional spitting rain - but it snowed a bit, hailed a bit and then rained the entire last 15 miles, plus wind and rain blasted us on the ride back to West Seattle. You would not have recognized me -- as I was riding a mint green Trek Pure step-through townie bike! Nothing Riv about me yesterday except my wool jersey - safely secured under my pink jacket. It's my daughter's bike and luckily it has low gears. My son-in-law was on an MB-2 with a Carradice bag in back and banana bag in front. (If anyone happened to see either of us.) A number of riders commented on my bike...it certainly was distinctive among the bikes I saw on Bainbridge. Here's my perspective: 1) If this ride had been in the DC area, there wouldn't have been over 3,000 riders (the count I heard, and yes, I know there are usually 5,000). In DC there would have been 300, weather-wimps that we are. 2) I saw many many more steel bikes yesterday than I see in the DC area, I mean, more in one day yesterday than I see in a month or two! I saw an Atlantis and a Hillborne and spoke to both but they just said hello and went on by. Doing CH gave me a good idea of what it's like to bike here year round. It's my impression there is a giant electromagnet located in Portland that has drawn all the bike boom bikes in America across the continent to PDX. I saw more bike boom bikes -- all ridden by kids who were born 30 years after their bikes were made -- in one afternoon than I usually see in 10 years in Metro DC. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
