Re: [RBW] Tires for AHH?

2013-05-28 Thread Robert F. Harrison
Congratulations on your AHH. I don't have that model (yet) but I've seen
pictures of some spectacular ones. Please make sure you send pictures when
you get it. Some folks even photograph the box as it's being delivered, the
unboxing, the build process, and so forth (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mgps-bob/sets/72157631702162963/). We do like
to see how well they were packed (superbly if you got it new from RBW).

And yes, it's totally normal not to sleep, to look through windows to see
if the delivery guy is there yet, to lose focus on other things, so on and
so forth. I've gone through this twice (Quickbeam, Hunqapillar) so take it
from me, your reaction is normal. :-)

Eagerly awaiting pictures,

Bob

 Hi,

Have been reading the post year for about a month.

Just bought a AHH. Should have my hands on it next week. Is is normal
not to sleep so well due to anticipation of a new bike?

I ride mostly on the poorly mainatained roads in the San Diego East
County. Any recommendations for tires would be helpful. I would also like
to hear about any recommendations for places to ride this bike in and
 around San Diego. Thanks.

Re: [RBW] Tires for AHH?

2013-05-28 Thread René Sterental
Not sleeping well is definitely a sign that you did the right thing
ordering an AHH!

I just swapped the 35mm Marathon Supremes I had on my AHH for a pair of 30
(32 according to Jan) Gran Bois Extra Leger tires and I have to say that
the change completely revamped the feel of the bike. Since I'm heavy I have
to pump them hard (75F/90R) even though the online calculator would have me
go even higher. The ride, however, is superb if a bit harsher than my bikes
that have 40 and 50mm tires inflated to lower pressures. It also rides very
well on dirt roads.

I'm going to be doing a side by side comparison with the 35 Supremes and
perhaps some other highly recommended similar width tire since I have
almost identical wheelsets (only the hubs are different) to try to
understand how real-to-me the differences are. I'm running Honjo fenders on
that bike.

Not sure how this applies to your actual road conditions, but I'm sure
you're going to be getting many suggestions from the list.

If Rock'n'Road tires fit the AHH, I'd make sure to give them a try. I have
a pair yet to be mounted, but was thinking I'd use them on my Atlantis that
can take wider tires than the AHH.
