Re: [RBW] do these bars look too high?

Here are bars with a very, very shallow drop. And the motorized bike
features some very, very swept back bars, to boot.

Re: [RBW] do these bars look too high?

2015-12-22 Thread Patrick Moore
Perhaps the original poster might consider a dirt drop-style of bar, these
being designed for a high position, with very, very shallow drop.

Myself, I've tried many dirt drops, only to find that my left palm cannot
tolerate a hook that isn't perfectly parallel to the ground -- a
positioning that such bars don't allow, they being designed to have the
ends of the hooks slanted toward the rear dropouts. But I'd love to find a
shallow drop bar that can be set at 2" above saddle with hooks at saddle
height for the default off road position, if only the ends didn't have to
be slanted.

They look to high to me for drops? Why not use a different style of bar
that has some rise to it? It looks like the drops are being use for an
Albatross -type reach and the tops look like and ape hanger style fit. If
it works for you, no big deal but it looks out of place to my eye.

2015-12-20 Thread Joe Broach
Hey Pete,

There's a lot to be said for having the drops near saddle height,
especially off road. Just make sure the stem wedge is safely below the fork
threads. It's not enough to hide the max height mark, especially with Riv's
extra headset spacers. Yours looks close to my eye.

Re: [RBW] do these bars look too high?

2015-12-20 Thread Thomas Lynn Skean
Them there bars is fine. And if one prefers the stem/bar interface to have a
more traditional angle, one can find Nitto Technomic stems with a 280mm stalk.

I would love the bar height of a 64cm Sam but not its standover or top tube
length. So I have tall stems on my 60cm Sams.

I think, when my ship comes in (scheduled to happen shortly after climate
change hits hades), I'll order my RBW custom by saying "I'd like a 61.25cm Sam
Hillborne". Joe Bell paint, of course.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean

Too high is the back of the beholder. If it works for you, then it's
not too high.

Up periscop(a).

If it works ... But OTOH, with a bar that high, perhaps the Albatross or
somesuch would make more sense and be more comfortable?
