I'll ride it as a MTB, to complement my Hillborne, up mountainous terrain and
to the mountains from home (a versatile gear range is preferrable). I'don't
like to take it on the MT section of the Divide trail, or from Kalispell to
Banff and back at the least.

I plan to run 26" wheels, with 2.3 or so knobbies, probably on Velocity Blunt
35s, as well as RTPs eventually.

What kind of riding will you use the Romanceur for? That will determine
gearing, of course, as well as other setup.

The frame looks well thought out, though I'd be somewhat between sizes as
far as top tubes go. I'll be interested to learn more about your build and
about how it rides.

And, I don't think it's too far OT at all; its Rivendellian or at least
Rivendell-esque, if not a Rivendell.

Drivetrain: If it were *mine*, this is what I'd do (27" wheel). Silver bar

Re: [RBW] Hunq porteur options?

2016-07-03 Thread Dan McNamara
I have used both a Haulin' Colin and a Pass & Stow porteur rack. If you want to
use front panniers without adding more rack hardware the P&S is a great choice.

Both are good choices and super solid racks.

I have a P&S on my Cheviot currently. A little tight getting the mount plate
over the side-pull brake - that would not be an issue with the Hunq, of course.

Re: [RBW] Hunq and Hilsen on Ebay

2013-03-03 Thread Doug M
I'm 6-3 with a PBH of 92 and my 62 Hunq fits perfectly for my tastes. With
standard Schwalbe Marathons the measured stand over is 90 cm. I have at least
an inch of stand over clearance wearing shoes. Some riders want more
clearance, and others who might want to use their Hunq as a rough stuff
mountain/single track bike with knobby tires want a smaller frame as well. RBW
typically advises to go with a larger frame if in doubt. I haven't regretted
that advice for a moment. I'd totally go for the custom blue ebay Hunq if I
didn't have one already. Too bad that Hilsen wasn't a 65...

Re: [RBW] Hunq and Hilsen on Ebay

2013-03-03 Thread Tom Harrop
I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. Maybe the lack of
standover isn't an issue, e.g. if you want it for touring. I have a 68 cm
Bombadil with barely any clearance and it doesn't matter in the slightest
for touring, commuting etc., but I've been ogling that 62 cm Hunq as a
dedicated MTB with loads of standover (PBH 101 cm). Having said that, I
think you'd better buy it to keep me on the straight and narrow...

What do people think of the asking price ($1400)? I thought maybe it was a
little high.

Re: [RBW] Hunq and Hilsen on Ebay

2013-03-03 Thread Eric Daume
OK, I have to say I'm tempted by the Hunq (extra diaga tube and all). But
I'm a little confused by Riv's sizing recommendations. I'm 6'3" with a 91cm
PBH/81 cm saddle height. I asked the seller, and he's almost my same size
(6'3", 92cm PBH).

Riv says:

*58cm Hunqa: 87.5-93cm PBH (Saddle height 76-84cm, standover on biggest
tire is 87.5cm)

**62cm Hunqa: 91.5-100cm PBH (Saddle hight 82-90cm, standover on biggest
tire is 91.5cm)

*which would put me squarely on the 58. But then they go on to say:

*Basically, the Hunqapillar is easy to size. Nine in ten riders can go by
the following:*

*Under 5' 6" : 48cm
**5'6" to 5'8" : 51cm**
5-9" to 5-11: 54cm
Long-legged 5-10" to 6-1: 58cm
**Long legged 6ft to 6-4.4: 62cm
*
Which would put me on the 62. Any other data points out there?

I'm concerned about the standover on the 62cm. I have a concern on the 36"
standover with the 62cm. I mocked that up last night with my 62cm
Crosscheck resting on a few pieces of wood, and it was tight!

Re: [RBW] hunq

2010-10-09 Thread PATRICK MOORE
Nice photos.

Can you remind me of the name of those cranks? Am I right in thinking
that they can take rings of any bcd? If so, I'd appreciate your
opinion of them, as I am interested in a pair for a wide range double
for my new Fargo, where the clearances are so tight with the wide
stays that I can't get anything bigger than a 24/36 in the inner and
middle postions. I want to run a 44/30 in the outer and middle and
align the cassette accordingly.

Can they take 110 bcd rings or only proprietary rings?

Thanks.
